What? You expect Royalty to Not live like Royalty?

How sad, but true.

I know I had a much better time on my vacation last summer, on a "road trip" with my 11 YO son. Over the course of two weeks, we enjoyed the following adventures:

Stopped for photos at the Midpoint Cafe on Route 66 in Adrian, TX.

Spent a night at the Historic Route 66 Inn in Tucumcari. The following day, we attended a beautiful Mass at St. Anne's Catholic Church. The priest gave one of the most uplifting homilies I have ever heard.

Visited Four Corners

A 3 hour horseback ride in Monument Valley, and a stop at Goosenecks State Park.

Drove the Moki Dugway to Natural Bridges National Monument. On the return trip to Mexican Hat, we stopped for some incredible stargazing.

Spent 3 days at the marvelous, historic Parry Lodge in Kanab, UT, where we stayed in the "Yvonne D'Carlo Suite". We took advantage of the proximity to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks for a horseback ride through Red Canyon, and a day of canyoneering in Water Canyon, including 5 rappels from 40'-90'.

Kanab became one of my favorite stopping points. It's a great small town, and the Parry Lodge was awesome. They show free movies in an old barn on the premises, from a catalogue of movies made in the Kanab area.

Visited the "Little A'Le'Inn" in Rachel, NV, and got within 10 miles of Area 51. That we came so close was about the only downer of the trip.

Met up with family for 3 days in Las Vegas, visited the Mobster Museum and saw "Million Dollar Quarter" with my brother-in-law.

Took the train from Williams, AZ to the Grand Canyon, and stopped at the "Standin' on the Corner Park" in Winslow, AZ.

Visited Slide Rock State Park in Sedona:

Enjoyed a visit to Tombstone, eating lunch at "Big Nose Kate's Saloon", with a ghost tour in the early evening.

Last stop was Roswell, NM, at the special request of my son. He wanted to see the Alien Museum.

To put it mildly, it was an unforgettable trip.

PS: please note that these pictures are not mine...I downloaded them out of time constraints, and I wanted to show a bit of the magnificent beauty we enjoyed.

Mr. Reporter Boyer, when Sultan Hussein travels a half dozen big jets go, not just one.
