Industry, not environmentalists, killed traditional bulbs

H*ll, I graduated magna cum laude with distinction in chemistry. I made Phi Beta Kappa as a junior in college and made AOA in my third year in medical school. I KNOW this stuff. Yes, Einstein got his Nobel Prize for discovering the Photoelectric Effect. Science doesn't end there. Nor do biological processes. I have an ulterior reason? Yeh, I'd rather my patients didn't need my help as much. I'm mad at liberal hypocrisy. I want them held responsible for the risks they are inflicting, as much as they'd blame us for alleged similar risks.

For some reason you are in denial that UVA can cause DNA damage, a scientific fact. As I said UVA and UVB cause different patterns of DNA damage, i.e. they are affecting different chemical bonds, thus requiring somewhat different energies. And you've ignored my pointing out that biological consequences can happen through light altering more than just DNA, with there being many well characterized skin conditions with action spectrums ranging from the short UV well into the visible spectrum and in some cases even into the infrared. Also well established scientific facts.

What is YOUR ulterior reason? So far all I know about you is your handle, the second half of which coincidentally and colloquially refers to a sign of chronic UVA damage — its microscopic changes exist at a depth UVA, but not UVB, reaches. I have nothing against "rednecks." I have plenty of nice patients who have them. But you seem to have a fixed bias that UVA cannot possibly cause any harm. Perhaps you should consider your own, almost certainly more limited experience regarding the effects of UV on the skin.

I've been freeping for a long time. I don't recall any other Dermatologist Freepers. So when I see a subject that relates to my expertise, which I imagine might interest some other Freepers, I tend to pitch in my two cents. Or twenty cents. I am guilty of verbosity at times. I've learned a wide range of interesting trivia here over the years from the impressive folks JimRob has collected here. I try to pay back by sharing what I know. If you're not interested in my points ignore me, but I don't believe I've posted anything deserving an insulting response.
