I’ve argued, good naturedly, with black friends of mine about “African American.” I’m more African then they are. They’ve been born and raised in this country for generations and I’m first generation Polish. They have deeper roots in this country then I ever will. We’re AMERICANS. But of course the people I am friends with don’t have the liberal chip on their shoulders so they get the joke.
If you REALLY want to see their heads explode introduce them to a true African American who came here from Africa who happens to be a white naturalized citizen. Brain matter was all over the halls of one college back in the 90s when a white African ran for president of the African American student club. Whites, white Africans, Black Carribeans, or Black Africans need not apply to membership in that inclusive club.
My experience in restaurants in Beverly Hills has usually been pretty good. Sure they expect a certain dress code in the upscale restaurants, as any restaurant will. I think this author is just picking a scab to try to paint everyone, including the Beverly Hills restaurant staff, and especially the Duck Dynasty family, as a bunch of judgemental jerks when neither is the case.
No, Fender Strat :-)
It’s only my favorite axe.
Man, you don't even want to hear my ancestral lineage. It would take too long to type it out :-)
Both sides of my family moved to California from the Deep South during WWII. My grandfathers weren't drafted to fight, because they had kids, so they went out there for the defense work. After the war, they both stayed.
I've got a few uncles and aunts who were born after the move to California, but all of my generation of the family were born there (with the exception of two brothers born in Japan). Our California family is now in its third generation, and soon to be fourth.
My parents are now in their eighties, and are the last of our family to have been born outside California. At this point in their lives, the South is but a dim memory.
I'm the first of the clan to reverse the migration by moving east to Texas. The four kids I have at home will come of age here, and will most likely make Texas their lifelong home. It's not like they really have anything to go back to in California. The place is a wreck, and getting worse every year. That's the chief reason I moved them out of there to begin with.
Beverly Hills is the same as Hollywood all fake and full want to be somebody.
Facial profiling ... keyword-worthy. And SO true.
Lol — it’s great, so appropriate.
Btw, happy new year!
