Who exactly owns A&E, and are they a publicly traded company?
If my portfolio contained a fair share of their stock and they did such a stupid fiduciary decision that flies in the face of sound business practice then I’d be even more pissed right now. Their decision would knowingly lower profits and must be hurting their stock price significantly, now how come they’re not being held financially responsible?
Perhaps a call for a quorum of stockholders to have a no confidence vote and demand the removal of the board of directors, if there is one would be in order. If that were to ever finally happen because of this PC bullsh*t then maybe it will help stop it.

I dumped Comcrap over the "no firearms related advertising" thing last year. I have AT&T now, and have blocked CNN, MSNBC, and all the other libtardesque cable news channels using the parental control device. I'm sure they keep track of the blocks and if enough people did this, it should send a message.
I believe they are owned by Disney.

There’s much more in this clash than a man quoting the bible and stating his views based on Judeo-Christian mores. Phil Robertson has placed himself in opposition of the loose coalition of Godless Communists, Socialists, pseudo-intellectual elitists, feminists, abortionists, Global Warming insisters, racists, welfare freeloaders, perverts, and other assorted criminals that make up the Democrat Party. This coalition may have little in common with one another but they support each other’s agenda, vote as a block and are powerful enough to elect one of their own as President of our country, so they certainly have enough power to not only tell A&E what they can, and cannot say, but as soon as Obama appoints another Supreme Court Justice, they’ll be able to tell each of us what we can and cannot say.

We would wake up to a different, and far more free, America tomorrow if conservatives had the individual character to actually do that.

I was never a gun hunter at all, but I did have duck calls
as a youth. Yes, God is going to give the atheist a GODsmack
by rewarding the Robinson family.
Then there's the example of some stations such as Lifetime which has decent programming. But you know what? No way am I going to pay for any more than minimal cable service.
It does seem like people have had it with our loss of freedom of speech. I know I'm sick of being BLACKMAILED by the thought police deciding what views can be expressed and what words we can use.
Phil Robertson (and family) can be “put on hiatus” but A&E will have to continue to pay him. Since he doesn’t need the money, he can put it into a fund to seed other conservative causes. A&E can’t silence him and then refuse to pay him; that’s restraint of trade.
So Mr. Robertson goes back to the cowards at A&E and tells them to “play me or trade me.” Either the cowards back down or Mr. R leaves for another network, taking his family, their fans, and the millions in advertising revenue with him.
There is no way A&E can win this.
How can A&E justify firing Phil, yet run next season's already taped episodes which INCLUDE Phil? GLAAD will be outraged if they do & fans will be outraged if they cancel the season. A moron could see that trap.
Did they consider that the entire family might endorse Phil's comments & end the entire show, as the author here suggests & I suggested 2 days ago? Having now set the bar at suspension, which is classic "cutting off your nose to spite your face", A&E is now at the mercy of the Robertson family.
Reality characters are fundamentally different from actors: They can't be replaced & you can't fire them without taking something significant from the show. Often, as with DD & Phil, the show cannot proceed without that character. "Now playing the part of Phil will be Alec Baldwin" does not work.
A less ideological, more revenue oriented management team at A&E would have realized LONG AGO their best option was either silence or a quiet public disavowal of Phil's comments. Networks routinely preface reality shows with a disavowal of the words or actions of the characters. Now, they face a loss of viewers/revenue & an ongoing controversy no matter how they proceed from here.

Also, the 15,000 or so calls after Michael Graham got fired at WMAL for his Islam remarks in 2005. The WMAL switchboard was jammed and inoperable for a couple of days. From what I heard through the grapevine, the 'genius' Jerry Klein (WMAL's deputy manager) wanted Graham to apologize, or something like that. Michael told him to "stick it" and left for good.
Sometimes, in order to defeat your enemy, you have to use his tactics. Ironic, but true.

Pray for the Robinson family - they are under attack. They need wisdom to make a Christ honoring decision - not jump to conclusions or seek revenge. That’s what the real Enemy wants. They need divine wisdom. It might be a little early to plot strategy until more information comes out. We want to show our support for Phil at this point more than our contempt for A&E. That can come but let’s do it in an informed and hopefully united manner. You might want to cancel your cable - we haven’t had a tv during most of our married life - and don’t have one now. A side note is an article I read that said network tv is in decline as everything is moving to the web - canceling might just help accelerate this on-going trend. Stand up for what you believe in as we are moving to the place where you will not be able to hide in the middle any longer. I agree with what several others have posted, most people don’t want to be inconvenienced. Shame on us. Do a search for pastor Martin Niemöller - “First they came for the Communists…” If we don’t speak out while we still can then we will be silenced - one way or another - at a later date. This is war but we “wrestle not with flesh and blood but against principalities against powers, against spiritual darkness” therefor out weapons need to be spiritual as does our battle plan.
