Six of the top ten and eight of the thirteen wealthiest counties in the country in terms of median income are in the Washington, D.C. region, according to latest Census Bureau figures.
These numbers highlight the explosion of the nation's "Boomtown" during the last decade, which has directly coincided with the massive expansion of the federal government and national security state.
According to the Washington Post, the Census Bureau examined more than 3,000 counties nationwide. Washington, D.C. also has a staggering average per capita income of $74,733 for each of its 632,323 residents, which is 79% higher than the national average of $43,725.
Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon and Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large and Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer teamed up to make a Hannity special about "Boomtown" in January, which documented how politicians of both parties extract wealth from taxpayers to enrich themselves and their cronies. As Breitbart News reported, that special about the fastest growing region for one-percenters in the nation angered and resonated with viewers.

I guess I’ll have to change my tagline to “Below average in Somerset County”.
All that building in Stafford County really has made a difference. That county used to be relatively poor.

My county’s per capita income is $26,206, for just under 30,000 people.
It’s EXACTLY like a malignant tumor devouring all of its hosts resources until it kills the host.....
We need to get our representatives out of that company town and back in their home states and districts and sequester them there while they SERVE.
Good luck getting lobbyists to visit John Conyers in his district.
Small quibble, but this is a ranking of average annual income, not average accumulated wealth.
Falls Church is a township not a county. It shouldn’t be on the list. It is in Fairfax County.
For many decades the left have decried the “concentration of wealth” in the west, particularly in the USA. Apparently on a global scale, the “concentration of wealth” is an evil thing, but on a national scale it is (in their minds) the way things ought to be....
Your tax dollars at work; doesn’t funding all that bureaucracy and all those bureaucrats to supervise making Americans jump through paper hoops bring a warm glow to the heart...?

In Virginia, there are independent townships not considered part of or under the jurisdiction of counties. Falls Church city is one of those.
True. Lived in Fairfax for 25 years and watched it change from Republican to Democrat as population became more affluent. I would bet the biggest change is in the number of non-native Virginians living in the area that brought their Democratic preferences with them. Northern Virginia has lost its’ Virginia roots and it shows! That’s how Warner got elected and Moran. Still have roots in rural Virginia and that area is totally different from NOVA.

If they want to measure income by townships that is fine but then they should do that for all states to see where the most affluent areas are. For example Somerset County NJ has townships where the average income is way, way, way over the county wide number.
The distinction is that independent townships in Virginia are just like counties. They have the same legal standing and their averages are not counted in the county totals. A valid comparison with other townships would only be valid for the same legal status townships, not just townships in general.

Not sure where they are getting the numbers, but the richest city, per capita, in the United States is Midland, Texas. It just replaced Greenwhich Conn.

I disagree and believe it is not a valid comparison because they are taking a small relatively homogeneous population center like Falls Church and comparing it to much broader geographic/ethnographic regions while giving it the same weight. Despite it’s political status, it is not a county as per the title of the list and it unfairly affects the results
