Gallup: More Americans than ever name “big government” as the biggest threat to U.S.

That escalated quickly.

Seventy-two percent of Americans say big government is a greater threat to the U.S. in the future than is big business or big labor, a record high in the nearly 50-year history of this question. The prior high for big government was 65% in 1999 and 2000. Big government has always topped big business and big labor, including in the initial asking in 1965, but just 35% named it at that time. It wasn’t so very long ago — as in, 2009, hem hem — when Americans’ primary concern for big government as a threat to the country’s future rested at around 55 percent, before hitting 64 percent near the end of 2011 and finally 72 percent today. Whatever do we suppose might have prompted such a thing, I wonder? Gigantic corporate bailouts, Scandalabra, NSA spying, ObamaCare… I don’t even know where to begin.

It’s no surprise that 92 percent of Republicans most closely identify with the big-government threat under a Democratic regime, but it’s pretty telling that a full 56 percent of Democrats are now doing the same. Their concern about big government peaked at 62 percent during the Bush administration, but it was back in the mid-thirties by the time President Obama took office and is now up a full 20 points.

Americans have always ranked “big government” as their primary concern, but now so more than ever before; looks like there’s been plenty of “change,” but Americans’ are not so big on the “hope” right now, huh?

Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a political party to espoused ideas that appealed to this massive number of people?

Then why do they keep on voting for politicians who are in favor of expanding government?

Take all of the polls you want. The truth is that conservatives have better things to do than vote.

Hey look Republicans, an open goal that you can score on. Why are you giving it back to defense?

Considering that big government is led by someone who hates America, Americans, the Constitution, freedom, and Christianity, there could not possibly be a bigger threat to our country than the current government.

Meaningless poll.

They say it but few of them vote it.

Hey look Republicans, an open goal...

Republicans love big powerful government ... that they control. When was the last time the GOP reduced the size of government?

Big government started with FDR and no one noticed. Why the sudden alarm?

All politicians are out to increase the size of government just like you would like to see it happen to your employer.

Only term limits would limit the size of governmental growth.

Then why do they keep on voting for politicians who are in favor of expanding government?

Because there is an increasing fraction that sees socons as in favor of "big government," meaning that they can't do whatever they want to somebody else's kids. They don't understand the socon concern that broken families produce customers for the welfare police state.

"Only term limits would limit the size of governmental growth."

That would probably fix it, but there is another answer. That solution is coming in the form of a bankruptcy. At that point everything will be cut back to the minimum where it should be.

God knows what kind of chaos will ensue when that happens. I don't see how it can be avoided.

This truly is great news, though. People sure as hell have not been paying attention until recently. Maybe there’s hope to start turning the ship in Nov. ‘14.

I guess it just means that there are 44% of democrats that are too stupid, and partisan, to understand this concept...

You know, the base of the democrat party...

There may very well be a significant increase across the board for this poll that has been running for such a long time chronicle-ing this public perception (trend)...

But the solution to put the genie back in the bottle for these very same people, eludes most...

Pride, and lack of virtue, both personal and political, is what is keeping the obvious solution from being implemented...

Until people in this country, in general, shed their pride, admit that we have all made mistakes in choosing others to represent us, that no longer believe, and adhere to the Consitutional constraints placed on the Federal government, and in some cases the state houses as well, we will never see an improvement...

The recent vote on this “budget deal” (continuing resolution) proves that the republican party, what is left of it and the conservatism it supposedly believes in, have abdicated any challenges to future agenda issues the adminstration will foist upon the country, and that no one dares challenge these efforts for the next two years at least...

I do not believe for one second now, that the elections next year will produce any gains, but a loss of seats in the House, and no gains in the Senate will pretty much be the outcome of the elections in 2014...No matter how bad it is now...For whatever reason...

Somehow, somewhere, where some of us who are politically and substansively been involved in political operations in the republican party, have been trying to effect a change in the moderation and downright capitulation of these temporary occupants of these offices, are grwong more and more tired of seeing the loss of strength and ability to fight these un-Constitutional losses of our freedoms and liberties, we see no end to this trend, and some are finally looking to jump ship, because iot is an undaunting task, with no real chance of change until we toss the lot of them, and replace them with representation that does value the constraints plasced upon them and the federal government by that pesky document called the Constitution...

Until the people that vote for these virtue-less politicians admit they (we) made mistakes, we will never be able to correct this situation...

I admit it, I have been fooled too many times in the past, and I am openly honest about my personal mistakes, but will continue to try to inact a change in philosophy (both political and social) in the people I vote for to represent me in government...It may not happen in my lifetime, but maybe we can create (foment) an overall change in the constituencies around the country to get rid of a reat majority of these politicians via the means we still have (for now) to have the last say-so in their political futures...

Bur as I have said before, it takes an everyday person (citizen) with virtue to admit mistakes, and do what they can do while they hae a chance to effect change...

Until then, and in numbers, we will never see that genie put back in that Constitutional bottle...

I would love to be proven wrong...

The next time someone claims there is “no difference” between Democrats and Republicans, ask them to explain why 96% of R think big government is the biggest threat while only 56% of D think it is.
