Fewer kids getting the taste of work during their teen years.
The Country is rearing indolence while importing illegal labor.
Liberals who run the school systems have done a huge disservice to young people by convincing them that a college education is the key to success. If these young people had spent a fraction of the money on trade school learning to be welders, machinists, etc. they would have employers fighting to give them high paying jobs, with signing bonuses, help with moving expenses, etc. I have heard trade school people who have 2-3 times the number of requests for such than they can graduate. We’re talking high five figure salaries to start.
Wow! You had a winner. I think the one that was given to me was a puppy mill dog. Horrible overbite and impossible to housebreak. Also very needy. I hate puppy mills with a passion but I couldn’t turn down taking the dog after my sister decided she didn’t want him anymore. I’m a softie.
BUT since sooooo much govt money is flowing in your area, or at least around Arlington, your are may be much different.
While there’s certainly government money flowing around here in Hampton Roads, it’s not comparable to the free-flow environs of Arlington.
and I expect my instructors to dress like professionals.
From what I see only a few know how. Grooming and proper fit and style of business clothing seems to elude much of this crowd. A kid whose suit pants are worn like casual jean look worse than the T-shirt and jeans crowd.
>>o this day, there is a local police dog that sees him, and will role over. A big GSD going into submission for a little Carin. <<
And the expression on the officers face is ...............? Does he break down crying and wailing? LOL
“The recession ended in mid-2009.”
Really? Maybe I don’t understand the term.
Even the ones that work are worse off, but some of it is of their choosing. 32 year old daughter and her hubby make more than me and hubby but we have tons more money than they do. Why? We bought a house we could afford and have stayed in it. It will be paid for in 2 years. They bought a $300k monster that they can barely make the payments.
We buy luxury cars but save the money and pay cash for the,. I just put the amount of a car payment away every month til the amount is sufficient. I also drive my cars at least 10 years. They both have brand new cars......I can’t even count the number of cars she has had.
If we don’t have the cash to buy something we don’t buy it. They have big charge card debt.
“Gezzz, I just cant imagine why the trend of multi-generational families living together is increasing dramatically....”
I don’t believe this is such a bad thing. The standard of living can be much better with expenses shared, the grandparents at home to help with the little ones, the men out working, allowing the mothers to be moms, even home schooling. Everybody gets taken care of, from the babies to the geriatric who can die in the comfort of their own home in the company of the families they helped and were helped by.
Or am I all washed up?
$100? Are you NUTS!? /s
My old man, when I first started working for him said “Well, I’d pay you what you are worth. But I don’t think you’ll work that cheap. So how about $5/hour?
(Which was WAY more than minimum wage at the time.)
And while you are kidding about the $100 minimum hour (and me with my $25 an hour) that would end up being sort of true. I have read where union pay scales are based on the minimum wage. I have not been able to find formal documentation on it, but many people have talked about at higher pay levels it is 4 to 6 times the minimum wage. So 6 x $8.50 ($51/hr) is a LOT different than 6 * $15. ($90/hr)
Part of it is the "cookie cutter candidate"-syndrome, where some hiring company wants everyone to be already perfectly-suited and trained for the job. Another thing is that there is, in society today, a very strong anti-male bias to the point that "male attributes" (logic, math, etc)1 are disdained and males in-general held in a sort of low-level contempt — which cannot have good effect.2
1 A good way to illustrate this is to show reactions to the legal system's inconsistency: in my State's Constitution it specifically states "No county or municipality shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.", yet there are commonly posted on county and municipal courthouses "No Weapons; Violators Will Be Prosecuted" — responses generally tend to be (a) dismissal, (b) deflection ["We don't allow guns on schools"], or (c) attack ["What sort of idiot would want to allow bringing guns into courts!"]3.
2 A fellow Freeper who was involved in military training said something to the effect that boys/men today are [literal] slouches that don't carry themselves with pride/dignity.
3 Conveniently ignoring the fact that someone who has never been convicted of a crime may be compelled, under penalty of law, to appear: jurors (and witnesses).
The solution is so simple, I don't see why everybody doesn't see it!
My son turned 18 this year and graduated High School. He went to his interview in a suit and tie and was immediately hired at $22.50 per hour for an instruction position.
He decided to start Community College rather than Virginia Tech and work full time. The company will help him with his school and has quite a few advancement opportunities. I am very proud of him.
I think that it's actually a good thing: families living together tend to create stronger family bonds.
Moreover, imagine a street where say a quarter of the homes are housing extended families and one gets the "no knock raid"/SWAT/oops: wrong house treatment? It's far less tolerable when your entire family could be roughed-up. (It could be the thing that saves us when the government turns full-on dictator.)
