At South L.A. mall, a Claus with quite an effect

Dressed in a red Santa suit, white beard and rimless glasses balanced on his nose, Langston Patterson sits on a velvet couch and waits for his adoring fans. Some call first to make sure he will be there. They come from Palmdale, Thousand Oaks and San Bernardino, driving past many shopping malls with Santas, but none that look like him.

It should be pretty easy for a black church to find a black Santa. It would be good to invite unchurched children, because Christmas isn’t really about Santa.

I don’t like mall Santas - of any race - Santa for profit and long lines.

They’ve had black Santas in Philly for ages. I loved seeing the racists from Fishtown come down to Center City and find out that their little darlings were going to have to get their picture taken with a black Santa.
