Are we living in a HOLOGRAM? Physicists believe our universe just a projection of another cosmos
Daily Mail ^ | December 12, 2013 | ELLIE ZOLFAGHARIFARD

The universe is a hologram and everything you can see - including this article and the device you are reading it on - is a mere projection.

This is according to a controversial model proposed in 1997 by theoretical physicist Juan Maldacena.

Until now the bizarre theory had never been tested, but recent mathematical models suggest that the mind-boggling principle could be true.

Professor Maldacena's model suggests that the universe exists in nine dimensions of space and one of time.

Now Japanese researchers have attempted to tackle this problem by providing mathematical evidence that the holographic principle might be correct, according to a report in Nature.

“Gravity comes from thin, vibrating strings.”

Thanks; I joined FR during the 2000 recount debacle. Sounds like an interesting book, will look it up.

There is a scene in Animal house where some of the youths and Donald Sutherland are smoking dope. They have a conversation that has a similar tone.

From Fantastic Voyage, by Isaac Asimov. Published in 1966:

"... Miniaturization is quite possible, but by neither method you have described. Have you ever seen a photograph enlarged, Mr. Grant? Or reduced to microfilm size?"

"Of course."

"Without theory, then, I tell you that the same process can be used on three-dimensional objects; even on a man. We are miniaturized, not as literal objects, but as images; as three-dimensional images manipulated from outside the universe of space-time."

Grant smiled. "Now, teacher, those are just words."

I personally think gravity is the key to a lot of our questions. Its my opinion that we think of gravity all wrong.

Watching a show about black holes this morning and it struck me that maybe gravity is faster than the speed of light. If a black hole can overcome the 186,000 miles per second of light, maybe its pulling it faster in the opposite direction.

Just morning ponderin.

I think this whole “reality isn’t what we think it is” meme is closer to the truth than we think. Truth be told, I think it is actively held together by God and when he decides to blink, it will all go away, in the way described in biblical prophesy.

Here's something to meditate on: at the same time that Christ was dying in agony on the cross, and saying "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do," He was willing into existence the nails that were holding Him to the wood.

“a theory that has never been tested”

That doesn’t sound much like a theory at all really. If its untestable …is it actually science? or some vague philosophy based off our admittedly limit knowledge? While I don’t claim to understand the math involved , if its non-testable its not actually science.

Relative to our timeline, yep.

It's Scientific Gnosticism.

...and it's a hoax. It begs so many fundamental questions that it's also a COMEDY.

The excellent book "The Elegant Universe" demonstrates using math how there are 11 dimensions that comprise space-time.

That's just one version of String Theory. There are others. Theories like this depend on "fudge factors" to make them work. ie, made-up mathematical adjustments. Same with Inflation theory. IT attempts to correct the 5 or 6 major flaws with the standard Big Bang theory. Yet it too needs various adjustments for it to even begin to make sense. Many cosmologists dislike or have trouble with both Inflation and String theory for this fudge factor reason.

“A fudge factor is an ad hoc quantity introduced into a calculation, formula or model in order to make it fit observations or expectations. Examples include Einstein’s Cosmological Constant, dark energy, dark matter and inflation.[1]”

The irony of the “our universe is a hologram of another universe, that explains everything” is that it begs the question - where did the other universe come from?

It’s similar to the theory of the electric universe. It’s also similar to the thinking behind A Course on Miracles.

Nothing unreal exists.

Life seems to be nothing but a projection.

Also not far from the stellar logic of Mary Baker Eddy...
