Federal officials say they've arrested a Kansas man who allegedly wanted to set off a suicide bomb at the Wichita airport.

Officials were to announce details of the case at a news conference at 2 p.m. ET in Wichita.

In advance of the news conference, an official familiar with the case told NBC News that the suspect was "an older white man," who became radicalized after reading extremist Islamic material on the web.

If you find some guy who is a talker with no means to initiate or complete an attack, then you provide what looks like the means and other support, the question becomes would he have gone on his own to build a truck bomb, or would he remain a bloviating talker (like some on some social media who talk about CW2)?

Yes we got him, but I bet that without the promise of a truck filled with Smashite he would not have done the phony attack.

They didn’t have enough to arrest him until he got into the truck, which makes for a weak case for how dangerous he was.

We have others who have publicly urged the killing of white babies, for instance, and they are still walking around free.

They’ve got to prove all that NSA snooping is paying off. Our entire government is a fraud.

There are a good many Americans who would happily report to an “internment village” if government told them it was for their own security.

The news media will be completely confounded on how to handle this.

Not at all. They'll just boil it down to something the low-information voter can understand: "Angry old white man".

According to this he acted completely alone, no co-plotters other than FBI. I bet, though, FBI is checking every contact with anyone that he ever had, and all their contacts, too!

Someday soon, we might be reading variations of this theme:

In advance of the news conference, an official familiar with the case told NBC News that the suspect was “an older white man,” who became radicalized after reading extremist Tea Party material on an internet site known as Free Republic.

No doubt...We’ll hear feds disguised themselves as Muslims and then bribed this mental case with 75 virgins if he’d do something really stupid.

Investigators tell NBC News that Loewen has been under scrutiny since August, when he began having an online exchange with someone he thought was a like-minded individual but who turned out to be an FBI employee.

Hmmm, that's not good. You mean cops surveil online chat rooms?
