Pope Francis, The Choice (Time person of the year!)
Time ^ | Nancy Gibbs

Posted on 12/11/2013 6:31:03 AM PST by Morgana

Once there was a boy so meek and modest, he was awarded a Most Humble badge. The next day, it was taken away because he wore it. Here endeth the lesson.

How do you practice humility from the most exalted throne on earth? Rarely has a new player on the world stage captured so much attention so quickly—young and old, faithful and cynical—as has Pope Francis. In his nine months in office, he has placed himself at the very center of the central conversations of our time: about wealth and poverty, fairness and justice, transparency, modernity, globalization, the role of women, the nature of marriage, the temptations of power.

The awards plays no favorites.

The naivete of that statement is beyond words.

I have thought about how far to go, and I've personally concluded that PiusX is the furthest away I can stray. I believe in the teachings of the Church, I believe that the Church is Christ's Church. But it seems to be that PiusX is closer to Catholic teachings than the faction that is currently at the helm of Peter's boat. The traditional Latin mass is spiritually uplifting beyond words, and while vastly prefer it I would settle for a reverent, Christ-centered novus ordo. But most priests are mediocre and conduct their masses like clownshow hootenannies.

I'm seriously concerned that this pope and his cronies will institute liberal opinion as dogma. I hear talk that there is some kind of synod to consider whether bishop's conferences should be able to decree dogma themselves independent of the magisterium. Can you imagine? Slavish support for wide open borders would be a faith-requirement from the USCCB.

More and more, I wish the Church wasn't so stuck on authority. I understand that there needs to be a command structure to ensure that the true teachings are upheld and adhered to. But in practice it seems to work in the opposite direction, squashing any and all sincere concerns while breezing over serious heresy. For example, PiusX gets thrown out on their ear, while bishops proudly dispense communion to loudly pro-abortion politicians and conduct grand state funerals for them when they kick the bucket (see Ted Kennedy's send-off from Cardinal Swisher O'Malley.)

This petty much says it all. Francis the pope is officially
on the One World Government, New World Order socialist team.
I guess he thinks that if he does his part to bring down
morals and principals in western civilization then they will
make him king of the state religion. My suspicions of this
cat is being proven day by day. The Pope is another Obama.

Judging from the list put out yesterday, this could have been a *lot* worse.

I heard he ties his shoes left-handed. This cannot be tolerated, and therefore he’s not eligible to be President.

He has a “z” at the end of his name, therefore he’s not eligible to be President.

He’s not very tall, therefore he’s not eligible to be President.

He’s from Texas, therefore he’s not eligible to be President.

He said something nice about Nelson Mandela, therefore he’s not eligible to be President.

He allowed himself to be gaveled down after 21 hours speaking on the floor, therefore he’s not eligible to be President.

So you think our laws are written so if you are a full citizen but you happen to be traveling overseas when you give birth, your kid is an illegal immigrant when you bring him back? Wouldn’t that be mind-numbingly stupid if true?

The only reason it’s an issue for Obama is because his mom did not live here enough years as an adult to meet the criteria in the law as written at the time for her kid to be a citizen if born overseas. That’s not the case with Cruz.

I keep believing that Pope Francis isn’t really the person his words have portrayed him to be....via the press.....but then I see things like him being named Time’s Person of the Year and I wonder....

Am I just wanting to believe we don’t have a pope who is a socialist, redistributor, and who is wishy washy on moral teachings of our faith?

The awards plays no favorites. The person who has generated the most news coverage usually wins it every time. Hell, George Bush won it for invading Iraq.

There's no way the Pope generated more news coverage or actually changed the course of world events or human activity more than Snowden. If we had kept our old Pope another year, what world events or human activity would have turned out any different this year?

“Just to clarify my comment to Jake Tapper about Pope Francis, it was not my intention to be critical of Pope Francis. I was reminding viewers that we need to do our own homework on news subjects, and I hadn’t done mine yet on the Pope’s recent comments as reported by the media. Knowing full well how often the media mischaracterizes a person’s comments (especially a religious leader’s), I don’t trust them to get it right when it comes to reporting on the Vatican. I do, however, trust my many Catholic friends and family, including some excellent Catholic writers, who have since assured me that Pope Francis is as sincere and faithful a shepherd of his church as his two predecessors whom I admired. I apologize for not being clearer in my response, thus opening the door to critical media that does what it does best in ginning up controversy.”

Sounds like to me, Gov. Palin had some good advice there. By the way, if one actually watches the interview in question (http://thelead.blogs.cnn.com/2013/11/12/sarah-palin-taken-aback-by-pope-franciss-liberal-statements/) objectively, she doesn’t even say flat out then that she “thought Francis was a liberal”. She said it sounds like he is,BUT she doesn’t want to base her opinion solely on what the media has reported on him. She even said that then, during the interview, and repeated it for clarity in her Facebook post quoted above (from Nov 14)

But go ahead, believe the media’s spin on Francis. THAT sounds like a good idea. (NOT)

Here’s an idea (mentioned upthread already): maybe he was nominated Man of the Year by Time because Time actually believes the leftist spin about him.

Like you apparently do.

To my knowledge, courts have never ruled on exactly what natural born citizen with reference to presidential eligibility means.

There are two categories of citizen:

1. Naturalized citizens, who acquire citizenship by act of government.
2. Native-born citizens, who hold citizenship by birthright.
For a court to find that someone who is a citizen but was not expressly naturalized to be other than a native-born citizen would require the creation of a third category, which would be a breathtaking act of judicial activism even by modern standards.

Take it up with the boss.

It’s been posted and made abundantly clear by him that Cruz birthers are in for a rough ride.

He was born to a fully qualified US citizen temporarily living in Canada, He’s a natural born citizen and is eligible. If he runs and is the strongest conservative running, I’ll support him to the hilt.

There is no “second time”. This is from the interviews she was giving a month ago promoting her new book. She said it looked like some of his “views” were liberal. Then she says her Catholic friends told her the truth about Pope Francis’ views and she says she will not listen to the liberal media again without doing her own homework. And if she does start calling Francis a liberal, the question for her is what liberal does not believe in abortion, queer “marriage” and women clergy. Maybe the women pastors is a bad question to ask her because she goes to some holy roller church that have their own female versions of Jimmy Swaggart. By the way Sarab Palin was baptised Catholic and you only have to get baptised one time, no matter what she now calls herself. If her parents had not given up he faith their children would probably still be practicing Catholics and that includes Sarah Palin.

You read me right. When George W. Bush, who was despised by the liberal media was made “Time Man of the Year” in 2003 that should tell anyone with a brain that the award goes to news makers, ideology be damned. All but three presidents, with them being Hoover, Coolidge, and Ford, have been named Time Man of the Years since they starting giving the award in the 1920s. Do your homework the next time before spouting off about something that’s not true.

I love it.

Some people gonna be mad at you.

My theory is the pope is saying crazy stuff because a whole A from village is going to be killed if he didn’t say it.

Only explanation besides the guy being a total Marxist as I figured.

He wasn’t a conservative. He did nothing to stop the
liberal agenda, he helped. He was more of a McCain type
of democrat lite. He may not have been as bad as Clinton
or Obama but he was an enabler.
