Think what apportioned representation by district would do to preserve our union.

“Think what apportioned representation by district would do to preserve our union.”

Even better get rid of “winner take all” in each state, and allocate electoral votes according to how each Congressional District voted. The result would be a President, who reflected the true wishes of the voters, rather than which party could get the biggest vote out in the large urban areas. We already have that with the election of Senators. Of course each Senator has an electoral vote also, but there are only 100 Senatorial electoral votes.

The House members stood for election at the same time as the President, and every two years. This body is the only body that truly reflects the will of the voters. Which ever party had the majority in the House would generally also have a sitting President.

What really needs to happen is that the Senate members need to be elected in each state’s legislature, and reflect the needs of the states, rather than the wants of those who can rally large numbers of voters in large cities.

This winner take all trend is evil, as is popular election of Senators.

"Even better get rid of “winner take all” in each state, and allocate electoral votes according to how each Congressional District voted."

That is exactly what I'm talking about. The system is currently used only by Maine and Nebraska. In Washington where I live we have a winner take all system, and voters' ballots across the vast state are cancelled out by heavily populated government/university cities around Seattle.

“I agree with all you wrote except this “Constitutional Republic that was the US before 2008” permit me “Constitutional Republic that was the US before 1917” Wilson or 1932 FDR or 2000 Bush and then finally 2008 You know who.”

I applaud your insightful revision of the post.

“Democrats are at every level of government, as are Vichy Republicans.”

I must agree with your point. I hope the more local the government, the more attentive to the people that government must be. However, I would recoil in horror if I lived in Queens and was represented by that den of politicians. The same for the region around San Fran.

Important Ping!

Good news from the Sunshine State! Florida State Senator Alan Hays (R-Umatilla) filed SM 476 on Friday petitioning Congress to call an Article V Convention of States.

Senator Hays stated, “Everywhere I go, people ask me what can be done to reform Washington, D.C. This petition to Congress to convene the Article V convention is the first step toward that reform. This ‘runaway’ Federal government is of great concern to Americans of all political parties and of all the states.”

In filing the legislation, Senator Hays continued, “In their wisdom, our Founders knew the Federal Government might one day become too large and too powerful, so they specifically inserted a mechanism that gives states a lawful and orderly instrument to restrain a runaway federal government; it’s Article V, Section 2 of the Constitution.”

So far, Florida, Virginia, and South Carolina have officially pre-filed our application in their state legislature. We have many more representatives interested in sponsoring our application, so be looking for your state as we announce more pre-filings in the next few weeks!

These are huge steps towards calling a Convention of States, and we’re taking them right on schedule!
