URGENT: Gun Control Coming to the Senate Floor on Monday

“[Democrats] just spent all year trying to effectively destroy the gun lobby, so why in heaven's name [should] we give them this Christmas present?" -- GOA’s Michael Hammond on the plastic gun ban (ABC News, Dec. 3, 2013)

The U.S. House of Representatives did a very dangerous thing Tuesday -- and, apparently, it did so with the consent of one gun organization.

By voice vote, the House slammed through a ten-year re-authorization of the poorly drafted 1988 plastic gun ban.

Lest anyone be confused about how the anti-gun Left views this, USA Today crowed, on the front page of Wednesday's newspaper that the “HOUSE SAYS YES TO ONE GUN BILL -- Plastic gun ban only firearm legislation to pass since November.”

Taken alone, this gives the Obama administration, if it chooses, another three years to use the 1988 law to ban large numbers of guns.

But there is an even bigger danger: Chuck Schumer held a press conference the same day to indicate that he will use the House-passed bill as a vehicle to pass even more gun control. We don't expect to know Schumer's bill number or language before he actually offers it, but it will purport to deal with guns from 3-D printers, while actually being much broader.

So here's what we are doing: We are asking our friends in the Senate to put a “hold” on any effort by Schumer to amend the House bill.

The Senate will only be in session four or five days next week before the House goes out for the year, and Schumer may not be able to get time on the Senate floor without “unanimous consent” from all senators.

So, by doing this, we would force Schumer to give up on his vehicle for banning printer-guns if he wanted any reauthorization of the 1988 bill. If Schumer remains adamant, there will be no re-authorization at all. Even if he capitulates, we'll see what happens.

It's not a perfect outcome. But we think it's an outcome we can probably achieve.

ACTION: Click here to Contact your Senators. Ask them to oppose any effort by Senator Chuck Schumer to add gun control to the H.R. 3626, the plastic gun ban reauthorization which passed in the House.

Ignorant boneheads in the house. Opening the gate for their fellow boneheads in the senate.

The government we deserve?

Don’t do anything. Let the GOP sit on the sidelines and let the Dems pass these bills with zero GOP support. It’s DOA in the House.

Try using https://www.popvox.com/. It seems to work pretty well for getting the messages to your congress critter. Pretty darn current too on pending legislation. Don’t worry, the nsa already has most of our numbers anyway.

What OTHER things that don’t exist, can the government ban? LOL. By the way, the 2nd Amendment COVERS guns made of ANY material - I don’t see anything in it to the contrary!

It already passed the house. Don’t be surprised when it gets 60 wotes for cloture in the Senate, then passes with zero Republican votes.

The silver-lining here: It will expose any anti-Second Amendment Congress critters; especially those in Red States and could seal their fate in November 2014.

I see it this way. If they pass a law that says I have to turn in guns that were legal when bought, then they will have to come get them, then I’ll be dead and won’t worry about anything anymore.

The GOP pushed it through on a voice vote with the GOP sponsor a Congressman who is retiring.

The NRA did not oppose this bill.

It’s a very narrow bill out of the House covering one issue. If the Dems load it up it will die. The GOP is covered either way. It’s smart politics. Although, the policy is stupid as we know. Criminals will break the law, but we need those LIVs if we’re going to take Congress and the WH back.

What keeps these politicians voting for these “safety” bills is the fear that you’re attacked because somebody got through who wouldn’t have if only you’d passed a law. It’s nonsense, but it sell in the urban areas. It’s why the NSA has such free reign.

A site that lets you weigh in on pending legislation. You have to register so that they can send your input to the correct congress critter. Seems to work pretty well as I usually get responses from my reps and sens. Except hairy screed. Once in a blue moon I get a response from that asshat. You can add comments to be forwarded if you like or just a simple yes or no on a particular issue. Very current on pending legislation.

It’s depressing how often capitulation is called good politics.

It’s my dream that we conservatives and freedom lovers could could operate from a position of strength one day.

My Senators are Rubio and Nelson. Rubio will probably oppose this bill, and Nelson will certainly support it.

The Honorable Nelson was offended the last time I sent him a letter asking nicely to support freedom.

All they had to do was let a law expire. In other words, all they had to do was do nothing. But no.

It’s been a long time. Starting with the “progressive” Republicans like Teddy Roosevelt then on to his crypto-fascist cousin Franklin D. we’ve been on a road to socialism. Keep in mind that every federal dollar has some recipient, some beneficiary who will fight will all their might to keep that money flowing.

That’s why I argue for a thoughtful, reasoned approach to legislation. Small, consistent, incremental change over time. On occasions when you get broad public support then make the knock-out punch on that issue. Otherwise, we need to be the party of sweet reason.

Most of our fiscal problems are easily solved going forward via compound interest. Just reduce and slow the rate of spending, take the GDP hit and chip away. Obama has given us a gift of unsatisfiable debt. Nobody can pay it as things currently are, but given reductions and changes in the system, including pro-commerce tax and regulatory policies that return the US states to a giant free trade zone and you’ll be surprised at how fast things improve.

On the socially conservative side of the equation people making money will let us move that agenda forward. We have to keep our oaths and maintain our character, but time is on our side. When the government school systems completely dissolves as is now already occurring, the indoctrination camps will end. Americans are still pragmatists.
