I believe the “MS” is just a holdover, as Microsoft long ago let go of its holdings of the network. I do not think Microsoft has any thing to do with MSNBC anymore.
the TVs in the Redmond MS facilities’ break rooms used to be tuned to MSNBC - in my building it is CNN, though I change it to the NHL channel whenever possible.
