'I can't stand EU bureaucracy' The Who's Roger Daltrey lays into Brussels

The Who frontman said Brussels had become so bloated its influence was now “detrimental” and the organisation was doomed to fail.

In an interview with Sunday Times magazine yesterday, he also revealed he had not ruled out voting for Nigel Farage’s UK Independence Party.

He said: "I've met Nigel but I don't know who I'll vote for. I'm agnostic at the moment.

"I can't stand the bureaucracy of the European Union. It’s detrimental to the whole place.

“They’ve made some decisions now where I think it can only fly apart at the seams. Sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.”

Daltrey, a former Labour supporter who is fiercely proud of his working class roots, condemned Tony Blair’s and Gordon Brown’s administrations for the loss of British jobs.

He said: "I will never, ever forgive the Labour party for allowing this mass immigration with no demands put on what people should be paid.

"I will never forgive them for destroying the jobs of my mates because they allowed their jobs to be undercut with stupid thinking on Europe, letting them all in, so they can live 10 to a room, working for Polish wages.

“I've got nothing against the Poles at all but that was a political mistake and it made me very angry and the people who get it in the neck are the immigrants and it's not their fault."

He also criticised for politicians’ obsession with social networking sites such as Twitter.

"I find it really worrying that politicians tweet," he said.

"They should be thinking about doing a good job, rather than telling us what they had for breakfast, or what colour suit they're wearing."

Yeah. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Always wondered what real working class heroes like Daltrey and Entwistle thought about what was happening to London and the Midlands.

Daltry doesn’t come across as an idiot. Never got that vibe from him.

You can kind of tell - or used to be able to anyway - intelligence based on a band’s song lyrics and topics. The Who wasn’t a dumb-ass grunge, or vacuous shiny soda-pop bubblegum band.

Roger never got into drugs like the other members did. It’s hard to imagine two guys that could have been more different in personality than Roger and Keith Moon....But that’s what made The Who great, four completely different personalities, which of course provided the inspiration for Townshend coming up with the title of “Quadrophenia.”

While I agree with Daltrey’s opinions regarding the EU and the UK governments, I can't shake the feeling that he's still in somewhat of a state of denial. Europeans after the war fell for the siren's song of socialism, egged on largely by the “working class” he speaks so highly of, and it has been downhill ever since. The EU was just the latest incarnation of overreaching euro-socialism that never could have taken root without the tacit approval of his fellow europeans, and to think they will somehow “implode” or “go away” due to bloat or ineptitude is a pipe-dream. Socialists never just go away willingly, and are only eradicated by violent social upheaval once people have finally had enough of its poisonous philosophy.

That's the feeling I get.

Heavily subsidized by we evil, greedy Free Market Capitalists.

Another bold celebrity too chicken to call out muslims.

That struck me, too. But, you see, the Muslims don't come to the UK to work -- the Poles do. So, they're the ones who took jobs away from his "mates". Logical but the premise is flawed.

Some took the opportunity and went from being working class to an educated class which was formerly unavailable to most working class. They were actually working class poor - as was my family! Some just took it as a way to get more money and have not taken up the possibility that a good education in so many good English Universities can give them. The sixties, seventies and then especially the eighties under Maggie Thatcher raised the living standards of the working class immensely. My family left England in the ‘60’s to come to the land of hope and promise (Australia). When I returned I was amazed to see the progress the average worker had made and how much business had grown as a result i.e. more money to spend for the average Joe meant more business etc and because Maggie had broken the stronghold of the Unions the working class were not being held back any longer.

And he’s rich. Try being just average and see how you like it then.
