Colorado Democrat Resigns to Avoid Recall Fight
National Review Online ^ | November 27, 2013 | Jim Geraghty

Remember that third recall effort out in Colorado, targeting two-term Democrat Evie Hudak? It is now moot.

State Sen. Evie Hudak has decided to resign rather than risk facing a recall election that, should she lose, would flip control of the senate to Republicans, FOX31 Denver was first to report Wednesday.

Later Wednesday morning, Hudak made her resignation letter public.

“In the interest of preserving the progress made over the last year, I am resigning as State Senator for District 19, effective immediately,” Hudak wrote.

By resigning before the signatures are turned in, she assures that a Democratic vacancy committee will appoint her replacement, keeping the seat — and the senate — in the party’s hands, at least through November, when her successor will be forced to win reelection.

While the Republicans won’t have an opportunity to win the seat until Election Day, Hudak’s departure is a welcome development. You may recall Hudak telling a rape victim that her statistics were incorrect during a hearing on Colorado’s gun laws. The Denver Post later found that Hudak’s statistics were incorrect, declaring, “the episode made Hudak look like she cared not a whit for a rape victim,” and Hudak apologized for “insensitivity.”

Get the new bum on record as to where they stand on the offensive new laws. If they support them that should be enough to recall them. Plus the add on of being able to make the charge that the Rats tried to game the system and dodge the justified wrath of the voters.

Yeah, this is a ploy to keep the seat in DemonRAT hands until the next election, because the DemonRAT governor Chickenpooper will appoint a DemonRAT to fill the seat until the next election.

A recall election would have had a much better outcome.

Maybe that’ll teach the ignorant b!tch to listen to the people before she votes, and may also be be a lesson to other morons thinking about gun control. These deranged progressives seem to think their Dem sheeple will support everything they do. Newsflash, idiot: A lot of Dems are gun owners too, and appreciate their freedoms. Now go lay down somewhere and STFU.

Glad though I am to see that vermin turn and run rather than try to stand and fight, the anti-Second Amendment bigotry laws she voted for are still on the books.

If you think the Republicans are going to undo the damage, please stand on your head, wiggle your ears, and whistle "Let It Be."

If this moots the recall election, then it’s a screw job to the Republicans. From now on, if it looks like they might lose a recall election, the Rat will simply drop out, be replaced by another Rat, and get the same result as if they had won the recall without spending a dollar.

If the appropriate number of signatures have been gathered, they should still have the election. If the Rat chooses to resign (I don’t think this resignation is “official”), then she’s just off the ballot.

If current law allows a legislator to duck a recall by resigning, then the law needs to be changed so that once the recall signature collection period commences, resignation is not an out for the miscreant or their party.

According to the story, the election precipitating event is the turning in of the signatures. That date is 12/4, so there probably wont be an election. The recall movement claims to have 94% or so of the signatures, so there will be a bunch of pi$$ed off people, but that’s it. You’re correct, the precipitating event should be the filing to start gathering signatures. If the signature drive fails, then the election is mooted.

This business of cancelling an election by resigning (to allow another Rat to serve the rest of the term) is BS.

More than just the seat. It is an 11 months reprieve to keep control of the CO Senate.

Now it's 18 Ds to 17 Rs.

The Colorado folks that I hear from say they were working their way up to Hickenlooper by recall. Now that this dumbass has skated the path to Hickenlooper is one step closer. There is cleaning going on in the house of Colorado.

This dodge being used right now (resigning in the face of a recall) is a very limited tactic. How many old pols are going to be willing to fall on their swords for the Party? The introduction of this tactic is alarming, but it can backfire on them. And Chickenpooper isn’t about to resign, so he remains a fixed and valid target for recall.

If this resignation allows us to divert more cash to dragging him down, then it will be worth it if it’s successful.

So whoever runs against Dems should just run for recalling Obamacare and reducing the national debt and become a hero.

Some of the Tea Party should run as Democrats and Republicans as well.
