U.S. Advises Commercial Jets to Honor Chinaís Rules
The New York Times ^ | Friday, November 29, 2013 | Peter Baker and Jane Perlez

Posted on 11/29/2013 5:00:54 PM PST by kristinn

After an internal debate, the Obama administration has decided to tell American commercial airlines to comply with China's demands to be notified of any flights through a broad swath of international airspace that it has claimed as an air defense zone, officials said Friday.

Even as the United States continued to send military planes into the zone in defiance of China's declaration, officials said they expected civilian planes to go along with Beijing's new demands out of an abundance of caution. Officials said they were worried about an accident or unintended confrontation that could endanger civilian passengers.

The administration’s decision came hours after China said it had scrambled fighter jets for the first time since declaring the zone last week, a move that was seen by Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States as provocative.

The caution reflected in the administration’s decision contrasted with that by Japan's government, which told its civilian airlines not to abide by the Chinese rules after they initially began to voluntarily comply.

China’s assertion of jurisdiction over the airspace, designed to bolster its claim to islands administered by Japan, is not recognized by any of the major powers in the region but the American decision may irritate Tokyo.

Earlier Friday, in announcing it had scrambled jets, China said it had identified two American surveillance planes and 10 Japanese aircraft in its newly declared air defense zone

It is time for Japan to call in the American Ambassador for one of those pro forma dressings down, and they Japan needs to recognize that the US under Obama won’t be coming to their aid in a confrontation with China. Japan needs to move its military up to a full offensive capability and to secretly assemble the nuclear weapons that so many believe they have in component parts.

No confrontation or shootdown will be “accidental”. Remember, this is a communist dictatorship, just like the Soviet Union was when it shot down KAL-007 in the early 1980’s.

Murder by communists is NEVER accidental! Mass murder is always planned!

The American Ambassador to Japan is Caroline Kennedy. She was appointed ambassador because, well, she is a Kennedy.

It won't do Japan any good to call her in. Kennedy probably has no idea what an air defense zone is, what islands are involved, or why Peking is now being called Beijing.

It may be time for Japan, Taiwan, and, South Korean to have a little confab, informal of course, about the matter of Chinese military activity in their neighborhood.

Maybe develop some kind of, informal of course, communication lanes between their command structures.

Maybe develop a mutual defense strategy, informal of course.

Maybe. All informally, of course.

Not by me. Chicoms don't give me spelling lessons. The English language is called that for a reason.

Oddly the Koreans are perfectly willing to go with the Western way of saying their names.

Lee instead of Yi
Park instead of Pak
Kim instead of Gim/Kim/or whatever

They even translate it that way themselves now.

Another advantage of making Korean easier to learn (read anyway) than Japanese (by a good margin) and Chinese (by gigantic margin) was when they started writing/reading from left to right and across the page instead of down in columns. (granted you can still find the old styles around).

Sounds like a prudent move on their part ...... but still within their purview. If they want to spell "San Francisco" in Korean as "AXOLOTL", then that's their right and privilege.

But the Chicoms haven't the authority to give English-speakers lectures on using Pinyin orthography when writing in the Queen's English. Or even Fulton Fish Market English.

Yes, Great Britain's low point IMHO.

But opium-selling was the last and most potent resort of men determined to break the Chinese policy of selling only consumer nondurables to kwai loh, and only for hard cash (silver).

No confrontation or shootdown will be “accidental”.

If they get into it in a three-way among the Chicoms, Japanese, and our guys, it'll be the biggest aerial brawl since the Battle of the Philippine Sea, a.k.a. the "Great Marianas Turkey Shoot".

It'll also be China's dress rehearsal for the Big One over the Formosa Strait and Taiwan.

" just like the Soviet Union was when it shot down KAL-007 in the early 1980’s. "

You see ? even us here on FR are better at figuring out our foreign policy better than these rank armatures that occupy Washington now.
It's either or, we know darn well that is clearly on China's mind and what it would cost China if they were to shoot down a American or any other commercial jetliner, or ? they just don't give a crap.
Now we have rank armatures in Washington now saying ? " pretty please ? we don't want to make you wvery angry, please, please don't hurt us or make us look wvery weak and bad in the world's eyes " ....
Hey Washington ? Get your crap together, stop acting like a bunch of rank armatures and sissys.
Washington ? here's what you say to China.... China ? if you shoot down one of our jetliners with innocent passengers on board we will not pay back our debt to you and we will kick your A$$es to timbucktwo and back.

Let the Chinese start shooting. Barak Insane Obama has brought the weakness of the West, and now he is about to harvest his policies of so called “peace.”

Peace only comes if the military is strong, and a US Commander in Cheif demonstrates that he will use the might of US military power to foil the new leadership at Politburo HQ in Beijing.

The entire Pacific will soon be China’s playground.Say good bye to former allies South Korea, Japan, and Australia. This will be the result of the current Obamanation in the White Hut.

Exactly. They would never have the balls to shoot down a commercial airline full of civilians.

They would have looked like impotent fools with all that air traffic ignoring their “zone”. Obama should have done nothing but he had to screw this up.

Nov 29, 2013 - In the footsteps of the US: Why next man on Moon will be Chinese "A Chinese Long March rocket is scheduled to blast off to the Moon on Sunday evening at about 6pm British time carrying a small robotic rover that will touch down on to the lunar surface in about two weeks’ time – the first soft landing on the Earth’s only natural satellite since 1976.

The take-off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in Sichuan Province marks the latest stage in China’s grand ambitions not just to put a man on Moon by the end of the next decade, but to build a permanent lunar base from which it can plan missions to Mars and beyond.

While the United States scales back its grand ideals of re-conquering the Moon, China is forging ahead with a bold three-step programme beginning with the robotic exploration of possible landing sites for the first Chinese astronauts to set foot on lunar soil between 2025 and 2030.

“This launch fits in perfectly with China’s logical development of its capabilities in space,” said science writer and astrophysicist David Whitehouse...

“It is sending astronauts into space to do more complicated things each mission, and each Moon probe builds on the last. They plan to bring them together and it’s very possible the next person to walk on the Moon could be Chinese in 15 years’ time,” Dr Whitehouse said......."

The USA and Japan should use the islands for naval artillery practice. To bad they mothballed the USS Missouri, a cannon platform that could reduce these islands to shore rubble in 3 days.

This assertion by China is probably reflective of their observations of American weakness in other areas.

Like its ally Iran, China knows the declining USSA won’t pose much of a threat to their designs on the region.
