Elian Gonzalez: My time in the US marked me for my whole life
Fox News Latino ^ | 11-19-13

Elian Gonzalez, the object of a 1999-2000 custody squabble involving Washington, Havana and family members on both sides of the Florida Strait, holds a piece of U.S. legislation directly responsible for what he endured then, Cuban official media said Monday.

"They were very sad times for me, which marked me for my whole life. I was never given the chance to have a moment to think about my mother, who as a result of that (U.S.) Cuban Adjustment Act died at sea," the now-19-year-old Gonzalez said last weekend during a Union of Young Communists event.

The 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act led in practice to Washington's wet foot, dry foot policy, which gives Cuban migrants who reach U.S. soil the right to remain in the country.

"I suffered the consequences of that law. They also violated my basic rights gathered in the (U.N.) Convention on the Rights of the Child: the right to be together with my father, the right to keep my nationality and to remain in my cultural context," Gonzalez said.

He also acknowledged "the nobility" of the U.S. people, who - although "often they are also the victims of disinformation" - sympathized with his plight.

His words could be read two ways, as is the case with most Communist pronouncements. I hope in his heart he knows that many, many people here prayed for his safety and good health. I still cannot agree with Janet Reno’s and Bill Clinton’s decision to return him to a father who never cared for him, never supported him, and never knew him.

When you turn your children over to a totalitarian state like Cuba (and very much so the US now) you end up with thinking like this. If you find the thinking limited and diseased, then you are a traitor to socialism.

I was never given the chance to have a moment to think about my mother, who as a result of that (U.S.) Cuban Adjustment Act died at sea,"

How did the Cuban Adjustment Act cause his mother's death? It seems to me that the Cuban government caused his mother's death by creating circumstances so dire that jpeople are willing to take to rickety boats to escape.

Plus the “wet foot/dry foot” rule was a Clinton innovation.

He became a political tool of The State when Bill Clinton forcibly sent him back to Cuba into the proud arms of Fidel Castro.

He became a propaganda tool as was the girl seen running from the napalm attack in Vietnam.

She worked for YEARS to escape Viet Nam and the government clutches. She did so by studying abroad in approved countries.

They didn't return him to his sperm donor, er, father. They returned him to Fidel Castro.

My sentiments exactly. I always thought both parents had agreed Elian would be better off in the USA. Unfortunately his father, still in Cuba, had to toe the party line and request his return to Cuba. Now neither will be free. Clinton and Reno allowed his Cuban Communist reeducation on our soil. I will never forgive them. I remember, at that time, thinking that it must be really difficult to wash Disney World out of the brain of a six year old boy. Never mind; we will soon be as awful a place to live as Cuba. Heartbreaking.

He says he wanted to be with his Communist father. The same father who was happy to see his kid remain under Communism (possibly with some added perks for being a high profile citizen of the State).

It’s happening all over the world as well, and Islamic countries do the same thing. What will ultimately happen is you will have a point where the governments of the world will be in two camps: Totalitarian Leftists VS Totalitarian Islamists. Guess which one will win................

And I should give a rat’s backside what he says because? Is he some intellectual thinker like Thomas Sowell? No? Or is it because his experience and age lends him wisdom? No? So who cares what some brainwashed teenaged pratt from shining example of the success of communism says or thinks? Not me.

You are thinking logically; not like the typical leftard who, while they will admit that Ted Kennedy drowned Mary Jo, still consider him a hero because he championed so many other socialist programs which would have made life easier for her if she had somehow survived.
