NYC City Council debates ban on plastic-foam takeout containers

New York City Major Michael Bloomberg is claiming one more casualty before he officially ends his reign as overreaching “Nanny,” with the City Council debating a ban on plastic-foam takeout containers.

The City Council’s sanitation committee is gearing up for a hearing on the future of the takeout containers set to take place Monday, The Associated Press reported. Members of the board are contemplating proposals to either ban the containers outright or explore options to recycle them.

This is why federalism is so critical and why a large federal level regulatory regime is so un-American. Let the 50 states compete. Let the cities become so expensive that no one can live there but the very, very wealthy and the very, very poor (who are subsidized).

They don’t seem to realize that styrofoam keeps the drinks cold and the food warm for a while...and nothing else does that.
