Over at The Atlantic, Ron Fournier -- the editorial director of National Journal -- argues that the Republicans are "The Party of Zilch." As part of his rationale for why the GOP "stands for nothing," Fournier states that "[t]he country needs to tame a massive debt that will be 100 percent of the gross domestic product by 2038 unless Congress raises revenue and trims entitlements. No, says the GOP."
Here is a news flash for The Atlantic: the American gross federal debt already exceeds 100% of GDP. No need to wait until 2038; it is currently at 106.5% of GDP, and still rising.

You might as well be speaking Martian to them. They simply do not care. They know, at least the ones of them that aren’t totally drugged out on entitlements, that the remaining wealth of this country is in IRAs, 401Ks, savings accounts and all manner of personal retirement devices.
They are planning now for the rape of those accounts.
Until everyone in the US is standing in a soup line and has had their entire savings and all their property pillaged... the Liberals will continue their rapacious agenda.
Other peoples money has an irresistible allure for Liberals...just like drugs entice and totally own the addict.
They have absolutely NO thought beyond grasping the next, and the next and the next fix and theyre in pathological denial as to the finiteness of the source.
For Liberals, the source of $$$$ is limitless and entirely accessible. They have no regard for the inevitable consequences of exhausting the resource or of grinding the down taxpayers to the point of abject servitude.
Then I suppose, Liberals will abandon this worthless and pathetic mass of undifferentiated being or more probably murder them outright, just like Stalin who murdered the Kulaks.
Well, SMARTY, at least in this instance, you have lived up to your moniker. :^)
On a more sober note, the eventual outcome of all this, when the accumulated wealth of working Americans has been stolen and spent, when the entire resources of the tax revenues have to be spent on entitlements, and there is no more extant wealth remaining, it will boil down to a matter of time. Time required of industrious (no sloths) to produce for the needs of the slothful (entitlements).
Of course, the logical extension of this can be seen from this country’s past and the past (and some current) environments of this world - slavery. The sloths become the masters, and the elite liberals will become the Gestapo Capos.
when you include $59 trillion in unfunded liabilities in that chart, it’s way past 100%. The unfunded liabilities themselves are roughly 4 times GDP.
So let’s keep up the spending for world policeman, nation builder and trade deficits. Let’s just whack American citizens.
You are right. No humans worth the name would sit still for abject serfdom for VERY long... especially people with a hard-won and proud tradition of individual autonomy and personal freedom.
Now though, so much is new and different... socially and in terms of technology that I’d hesitate to make a direct comparison to the rejection of servitude as it was accomplished historically.
I always wonder about this.
At this point, what would it take for a whole class of disaffected and angry citizens to reclaim their rights?
We all have personal experience of enjoying and possessing these things AND in some cases, ourselves fought for or have relatives who fought to safeguard them. It’s not as though we would be breaking new ground and overthrowing an entrenched dynastic tradition.
Why are SO many Americans permitting themselves to be SO crudely and thoroughly subdued?
Where did this naïve and docile disregard for our personal freedoms originate?
Great tag line Smarty.
