Then the most valuable execs will not join Swiss based corporations, which will prove to be a drain on the revenues of the cantons.

It will pass, and become all the rage here within a couple of years.

“I’ve personally seen this happen to small business four times in my career. “

While it’s true some CEO’s are grossly paid even when they lower revenue or bankrupt the company, some are worth their pay as they’re the reason the company is growing.

RE: Along with socialized medicine, this has been one of the top three or four “fairness” issues pushed by progressives.

Yep. And it really surprised me that this idiotic proposal would even be considered by the usually sensible and pragmatic Swiss people.

But then, this is a country that recently allowed itself to be BULLIED by America’s IRS when they agreed to reveal the secret bank accounts opened by US citizens.

I guess when you lose your courage, it will be slowly downhill from there...

RE: It will pass, and become all the rage here within a couple of years.

Not sure about it passing.

The latest poll released last Wednesday, which was conducted between Nov. 1 and Nov. 8 by polling group gfs.bern for Swiss television, shows 36% of respondents in favor of the initiative, 54% against and 10% still undecided.

However, here’s the worrying thing -— The initiative needs a simple 50% approval rate to be adopted, and is then automatically written into the country’s constitution

I predict a massive wave of business leaving the country if this passes.

There are several city-states that cater to corporate headquarters and the ultra rich.

Interestingly, the corporation's banking may go with them for a double whammy.

The ubiquitous Marxists are even taking over Switzerland.

It’s a strange world and getting stranger by the day.

Ending wealth inequality is something leftists love to whine about. North Korea is a perfect example of wealth equality. When pointing this out to leftists they are silent.

Isn't that already standard practice in that part of the world? The only surprising thing is that (for a heavily regulated geographic region such as Europe) the practice hasn't been heavily attacked.

Then again, the overall lack of a strong work ethic and greater government dependence does influence things.

Excellent! Great move for free countries to pick off some great Swiss corporate world headquarters!

There should be some sort of criteria for high pay execs just like I had when I was Corporate Director of Engineering for a world wide firm.

All engineers, myself included, were expected to produce 10X our yearly salary in savings, waste reduction, increased production, safety...

I see no reason other execs should not be subjected to something similar where they have to show what ideas they implemented to increase the bottom line rather than just the stock price which reflects the efforts of ALL the employees.

Under that scenario why should any of the green with jealousy socialists object to someone making $10 million if they could prove they increased the bottom line by $100 million? It would be a win win for all involved.

Commissioned sales are another example of reward for success. Yes there are the occasional pure damned luck for a big sale but by an large a great salesman is well worth a reasonable commission.

Right now however it is the good old boy’s club.

I agree with everything you said... but should it be GOVERNMENTS determining what should and should not be an executive’s salary? Or should it be a company’s shareholders?

Socialism always creates wage inequality. A heavy government will aways reward its friends first creating a permanent elite class.

Ironically the left will push for more socialism to fix the problem never realizing that they are only making it worse.

Liberals are, above all else, stupid.

The Swiss actually have a good work ethic and a decent economy. From what I understand, about 20% of their workforce must be imported or are resident guest workers. This includes professionals, not just the hewers of wood and drawers of water types. They also have a sane immigration policy. Nobody gets permanent residency without a majority vote of their community or neighborhood.
