Group: Calif. transgender law repeal will qualify (gathers enough signatures)

Opponents of a new California law that gives transgender students certain rights said Sunday that they had collected enough signatures for an initiative that would repeal the law.

A coalition of conservative groups called Privacy for all Students submitted 620,000 signatures to get the initiative on the November 2014 ballot, said Frank Schubert, the political strategist handling the signature gathering effort.

To qualify, at least 505,000 valid signatures must be submitted. To verify the signatures, each of California's 58 counties will first check that the overall count is correct, then conduct a random sampling to make sure they are legitimate. After that, it is likely the state would order a full review.

If, after all of the reviews, the group has the requisite number of valid signatures, the initiative would qualify for the ballot.

California is the first state to pass a law detailing the rights of transgender K-12 students.

One of the provisions gives transgender students the choice of playing on either boys or girls sports teams. It also allows them to choose which restroom that want to use. Supporters of the repeal effort argue the law violates the privacy of non-transgender students.

"It shows the degree of opposition that exists to opening the most vulnerable areas of public schools to the opposite sex," Karen England of Capitol Resources Institute, a coalition member, said in a statement.

Are people going to want to bother with this initiative, knowing it will be nullified by the courts.

We can get rid of our many bad judges/justices by impeaching them or in some cases voting them out.

The first 2 replies were my thoughts. The courts will just toss it out.

Not on this one. I don’t see Kennedy agreeing that boys should be on girls’ sports teams.

That’s where they’ve over-reached on this one.

There would be four types of bathroom/showers.

Robert Heinlein had six sexes in his imaginary future. Hetro male, Homo male, Hetro female, Homo female, ambi male and ambi female.

He lacked imagination. He missed mutilated male and mutilated female.

I hope you are right and I am wrong. History seems to support me, along with many freepers on this thread.

At least the normal people are trying.

It would not surprise me if the state courts find this law constitutional, but if it reaches the level of the Federal courts, I believe it will be struck down as it causes both emotional and potential physical harm to children. Even in this day and age, I cannot see that the federal courts would allow children to be put in harms way by a law like this.

I lived in California for almost 20 years, I am not sure what happened to that state, It’s more than just a weak Republican party. So many people down there are completely at odds with the state government but feel powerless to fight it. Instead, many are voting with their feet. I am one of them, I love that state, but I will never go back.

The courts will just nullify the repeal. They are near gods who don’t have to listen to mere peons.

Yes, we all know how this will end up, don't we?

This particular sexual perversion will somehow be "found" in the Constitution as well.

You are talking as one who has been transported here from a past decade. We are now on an accelerated slide to depravity. There is NOTHING OFF THE TABLE ANYMORE. And I mean absolutely nothing.

I’ve heard Rush reaches something like 20 million a day...that’s amazing if accurate.

Quite a few of those are Leftists, surprisingly.

No one is born a cross-dresser. We are born naked. Clothing is dictated by social custom, modesty, and fashion.

It is a mental disorder.

Those who “become transgendered” willfully seek plastic surgery to appear to have the sexual characteristics of the opposite sex.

If trannies (pre or post op) have protection in hiring practices and workplace attire, then so do “green people” with arms and faces full of tattoos.

This is such crap. Young boys going into the girls locker room and rest room is horrible for girls of a certain age. Regardless if the boy thinks he’s a female and dresses like one he’s still a male. Also, let females start getting sexually abused by men in rest rooms they walk into without notice under the guise of being a transgender, just to get into the room to assault a female.
This is an outrageous law.

IMO, it should be illegal to “transgender” anyone under the age of 18, no matter what your moral preferences might be.

In twenty years, we will have developed surgical methods to alter one’s look and sexuality in various ways that one can only dream about today. So this talk of a third-sex episode or group? Prepare yourself for a fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh group.

How you will generate and accept seven different sexual groups? That would be a curious question for Justice Kennedy to envision and explain to the public. Tiger-women, dog-boys, werewolf-tri-gals, and alien-freaks....will all be part of our cultural divide by 2030.
