Britain would do its utmost to block any attempts to bring the 28-member European union closer together, as that would imply handing over more powers to Brussels, said the former chancellor on Thursday.
Among other moves, the 28-member European Union needed to appoint a single EU finance minister who would have the power to discipline states which failed to obey the rules, such as during the recent debt crisis.

Sorry , i left off the Sarc tag on the Top line.
The EU is a political copy of the Soviet Union. There’s nothing to back the money, and like the public common, nobody to care if the money is debased. The more countries they admit the closer they’ll be to collapse.
Britain needs to save itself by getting out first.
Imagine ! UK not enthused to be ruled -and “disciplined “ in accordance with the ( ex-) German chancellor’s demands. No German discipline for the Brits? They haven’t had any since 1945. That’s way, way too long to be without your discipline..........
Straight from the Third Reich plans for German domination of Europe.
“Europe needs Russia’s resources and Russia’s market.”. Pfui. More from the Third Reich.
Yes, Britain has always been an obstacle.
