Rome — US secret services allegedly eavesdropped on cardinals before the conclave in March to elect a new pope, Italian weekly magazine Panorama claimed Wednesday.

"The National Security Agency wiretapped the pope," the magazine said, accusing the United States of listening in to telephone calls to and from the Vatican, including the accommodation housing cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio before he was elected Pope Francis.

The allegations follow a report on surveillance website Cryptome which said the United States intercepted 46 million telephone calls in Italy in December 2012 and early January 2013.

Among those, "there are apparently also calls from and to the Vatican," Panorama said.

"It is feared that the great American ear continued to tap prelates' conversations up to the eve of the conclave," it said, adding that there were "suspicions that the conversations of the future pope may have been monitored".

Bergoglio "had been a person of interest to the American secret services since 2005, according to Wikileaks," it said.

I don’t pretend to understand how all these agencies are connected, but I suspect there are military/ex-military with information on a lot of these issues. Is it possible that the house of cards is coming down b/c of Obama’s poor treatment of our military leaders, as well as the current active duty and vets?

Electronic devices may have been collected from the participating Cardinals. No way others seeking to intercept communication would be affected. It’s like banning guns; only the law abiding observe the ban.

Obama was probably in a pool on who would be the new Pope.

"The National Security Agency wiretapped the pope,"

Illegally spying on law abiding citizens is just as concerning.

Why would U.S. spy agencies wiretap and spy on law abiding individual U.S. citizens, groups and or the pope or our allies?

There would be only 1 reason to engage in these activities. The evil motives are clear. Total complete control and total power.

Finally a chance to use one of my favorite quotes from Hudson Hawk. "Oh, the Pope warned me never to trust the CIA."

Why????

Really, what did they hope to learn from the Cardinals? The whole thing's so strange, as a Catholic, I can't even be angry at them. In fact, I'm beginning to feel sorry for the paranoid freaks.

The NSA absolutely MUST know the truth regarding Obama's eligibility, birth certificate, SSN's, selective service card. They can access damn near anything they wish to see, so THEY KNOW THE TRUTH YET THEY ALLOW IT TO CONTINUE.

The question is, how can the bad guys/gals in our gov't outnumber the good guys? The NSA is a large Agency yet they cover for Obama. Why?

Also, Snowden.. Is he an agent of Team Barry? Is Snowden the Iranian born Valerie Jarrett's plot for stopping America from spying on foreign interests? People need to remember that Obama and his ilk are in office for one purpose, and that is to KILL America dead.

Like I said many times about Obama - He has two agendas:

1. Destroy the US from within.

2. Empower and spread radical Islam.

So is this yet another attempt at #2? Much like Muzzies who burn down churches and kill Christians?
