Big business declares war on tea party
Washington Times ^ | MONDAY OCTOBER 28, 2913 | Patrice Hill

Posted on 10/29/2013 7:26:56 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

The recent fiscal crisis has opened a major rift between the tea party wing of the Republican Party and business groups that traditionally have backed Republicans, with many business leaders now vowing to get involved more in GOP primaries to try to counter insurgent candidates.

Tea party leaders are defiant, saying they will not change course despite criticism from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable and other top business groups.

But business leaders argue that the scorched-earth tactics used by tea party Republicans during the 16-day shutdown and debate over raising the federal government’s borrowing limit marked the fourth time since the GOP took control of the House in 2011 that tea party adherents precipitated a governmental crisis that zapped consumer and business confidence, raised uncertainty and exerted a major drag on economic growth.

Besides encouraging more business-friendly candidates in primary contests, business groups are rallying behind establishment Republicans such as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican who is being targeted by tea party activists for brokering a deal to temporarily raise the debt ceiling and reopen the government, while launching a negotiation with Democrats over budget cuts and proposed tax and entitlement reforms.

Business executives agree with many tea party goals such as cutting the deficit and reforming entitlement spending, but they argue that conservative lawmakers have erred in their tactics and wounded the economy by driving the government with increasing frequency into states of crisis and dysfunction — this time for the ultimately unsuccessful cause of trying to force President Obama to cancel his health care law.

When some of Rush's sponsors turned on him, he cut them off. When they wanted to return as sponsors, no dice, he'd already found replacements.

We can refuse to buy products from businesses that fight Tea Party candidates and we can donate to Tea Party candidates. And get out the vote!!

I already avoid GE due to their collusion w/the gov’t to get rid of cheap lightbulbs (incandescants).

The businesses against the Tea Party are probably those who like the pay-to-play circle of gov’t blackmail and market-fixing.

The “Business Roundtable” list of “members” looks like a “Whose-Who” of “Crony Captialists”:

The Gopes are really getting their panties in a bunch, to use expression.

It’s not good or funny though.

“they argue that conservative lawmakers have erred in their tactics...”

This is their main claim, that their animosity is purelynpragmatic.

But next time anyone says that, just ask if President Romney agrees?

People should call up Gope radio shows and say, “we need to run the most conservative candidate there is who can win. — and President Romney agreees.

Bottom line, Tea Party wins elections, Gope loses.

Does anyone remember the Chick-Fil-A event?
I wonder how many millions $ they made when the people poured into the restaurants to support them against the media thugs.
Just let big business try to intimidate the TEA party.
WE ARE the TEA party.

This situation is much like that faced by George Washington's finest subordinate general, Benedict Arnold.

In those days, big shots in Congress hated Arnold for much the same reasons establishment Republicans can't stand Sarah Palin today.

Best source for Arnold's history can be found in several Kenneth Roberts historical novels and in Willard Randall's 668 page biography titled "Benedict Arnold, Patriot anf Traitor."

They can join the Rats who will pick their pockets clean.

The problem with these “business” people is that they just want to increase their bottom line short-term, so they can get bonuses and exercise their stock options.

They don’t give a damn about their companies in the long-term, or the nation’s future.

11 Does anyone remember the Chick-Fil-A event? I wonder how many millions $ they made when the people poured into the restaurants to support them against the media thugs. ...

One article I read said a consulting firm estimated that the average Chick-fil-A restaurant had 29.9 % more sales and 367 more customers than on a typical Wednesday.

This fight is for the long haul, not 1 day.

The TEA Party ain’t the welfare crowd, we’re the makers. We have the money to choose where it is spent.

Ummmm......I'm guessing that they are also up in arms about the fact that the US Government has not passed a full year budget since 2009, 2010? No? Hmmmm.....

Big business and big government go hand and hand. The big business can afford to hire armies of lawyers and accountants to get around taxes and regulations. The small start up, not so much. All business hate competition , and big business really doesn't like the small innovators (think IBM and the early days of Apple). With big government as an ally, a big corporation can keep out the competition.

Let's say you were a small company making cheap light bulbs, well you couldn't do it because of EPA regs, OTOH GE can afford a plant in China to make more expensive CFR bulbs. Who do you think benefits and who is hurt by big gvt in that scenario ?
