A dozen bombings in Iraq killed 55 people on Sunday as the prime minister prepares to travel to Washington to seek President Barack Obama's help in confronting a wave of sectarian violence fueled by Syria's civil war.

Iraq's own security forces, trained and equipped by the U.S. troops who withdrew in late 2011 after a nine-year occupation, have been unable to prevent a surge in violence which has taken the civilian death toll so far this year to about 7,000.

“The first thing the prime minister will ask for is to accelerate the processes for the shipment of drones and F-16s,” Deputy National Security Adviser Safa al-Sheikh Hussein told Reuters in an interview last week.

“The initial response from the U.S. was positive, but it depends on the delivery time. We want them immediately.”

Washington agreed in August to supply by late 2014 a $2.6 billion integrated air defense system and F-16s.

The idea behind equipping the Iraqi military with U.S. arms—as Carter did with Egypt—was to create a dependency and a bond between the Pentagon and Baghdad. It also established a market for U.S. spare parts, ammo and replacements. Obama has purposely sabotaged our relationship with the Iraqis because a stable, prosperous Iraq might vindicate Bush while negating Obama’s 2007-08 anti-surge, antiwar windbaggery.

This is how we begin to recoup the $750 billion spent in Iraq. With Iraq's expanding oil revenue they should be able to pay cash.

>> With Iraq’s expanding oil revenue they should be able to pay cash.

They damn well BETTER pay cash and a premium on anything they buy from us, ever again. And sell us oil at 20% off too.

But personally, I think arming moongod worshipping pedophiles — ANY moongod worshipers — is a breathtakingly stupid idea. But I understand that the arms industry doesn’t really care if we foolishly arm countries that hate us, as long as they get their $$$$$. Short term government aided welfare is A-OK with them, let the chips fall where they may.

Shouldn’t the Iraqis pay in advance for anything they might get? As to the bombings...isn’t that their country and their problem? I guess the Iraqis are whacky.
