Some health insurance gets pricier as Obamacare rolls out
Los Angeles Times ^ | October 26, 2013 | By Chad Terhune

Thousands of Californians are discovering what Obamacare will cost them — and many don't like what they see.

These middle-class consumers are staring at hefty increases on their insurance bills as the overhaul remakes the healthcare market. Their rates are rising in large part to help offset the higher costs of covering sicker, poorer people.

Certainly individuals can't be trusted to act in their own best interest.

"Their own best interest" is not the goal, which is "the common good." Whether you like it or not, that is the distinction. Liberals, being stingy by nature, cannot envision a system that relies upon charity to cover those who cannot fend for themselves. Hence, they project the necessity of coercion and then deem the level of "contribution" by which to sate their guilt. Of course, they also plan to get a hefty cut along they way as a reward for their "beneficence" with other people's money.

The scariest scenario is that The One will nationalize all insurance and healthcare, which may have been his plan all along.

“People could have kept their cheaper, bad coverage, and those people wouldn’t have been part of the common risk pool,” Lee said. “We are better off all being in this together. We are transforming the individual market and making it better.”

Typical socialist. Spreading the misery around evenly. Except to the ruling class of course.

What am I supposed to feel sorry for people?

After years of mocked, laughed at and made fun of by liberals and “moderates” who lectured me on the goodness and morality of Obamacare, they can all kiss my ass.

Don’t like high prices? Stop being so greedy.

The other thing that people are not examining is not the rise in the premiums alone, but the rise in the deductibles and “out of pocket expenses” which will now amount to about $10,000 per year for everybody, including the buyers of Medicare Advantage plans, which have been gutted.

Many of the buyers of these plans are people on fixed incomes, not just SS, but usually some sort of work pension as well. These supplemental plans used to cost between $35-$100 per month, deducted from your SS payment. Now they are “free” - with a note from the insurance company that they are being paid directly by the government to manage them - so instead of a predictable modest deduction per month, now buyers of these plans will have no deduction but will have to come up with an unpredictable and uncontrollable amount $10,000 per year between the deductibles and the vaguely designated out of pocket expenses.

Way to go, Bambi! Destroy the health care of fixed-income senior citizens too, while you’re at it.

I agree, I think this massive screw up is all a prelude to the single payer system, which is what Obama even said as early as 2007, up front and out loud and publicly, was what he wanted. And he wanted not only a single payer system, ala Great Britian, which does permit you to find private treatment if you can afford it, but one that does not permit any patient or doctor to go outside of the national health system.

I’m sure there will be an exception for Obama and the aparatchiks, though. There always is. The Soviet bigwigs didn’t get Soviet medical care, Fidel always went outside of Cuba for his own treatment (or brought foreign doctors, equipment and drugs into Cuba for himself), and it will be no different with Obama and his anointed government royalty.

The deductibles have risen so high that the new policies amount to nothing more than disaster coverage not the “major medical” policies that they used to be. Obamacare is going to kill the quality of healthcare until it resembles that of 3rd world countries. Only the wealthy or those with connections to the political elites will receive the type of medical treatment that once existed. Mark my words.

It’s happening all over, not just in California, When this thing is done they will be hunting down Democrats with tar and feathers.

not if the media successfully pins the blame on the republicans and the gullible public believes it.

Not one Republican voted for it.

The ownership of this pantload belongs entirely to O'Bomber and the RATs.

Serves you right!

You would have to be awful stupid and awful gullible to believe the Republicans started Obamacare.

Not one Republican voted for it when Nancy presented it.

Not one Republican voted for it.

Notice...not one of these articles mention that.

Republicans have been saying for years that the thing wouldn't work.

Does ANY media outlet give them credit for being right for years on this issue? NONE.

Jsanders, have you heard anything about what happens when a major grocery retailer bases in Pleasanton, CA switches from Cigna to BC/Anthem? Just found out today that’s happening, and the Texas employees (at least) are being forced to Anthem Jan 1.

I agree entirely. That's exactly what is going to happen.

They never have and they never will.

Conservative groups need to know this as principle #1 and act on it. The best defense is a good offense.

Buy up all the cheap ad time during local sporting events on local cable....NATIONWIDE.

Ska-rew the networks.

DEMOCRATS??? Surely you jest! Typical low-information voter reaction: "Martha! Look at what's happened to our insurance rates! It's those damned Republicans and their shutdown is what caused it!"
