Is Delaying the Individual Mandate a Good Idea?
10-24-13 | Allan J. Favish

If the individual mandate is delayed by year or the fine is not to be enforced for a year, doesn't that create another problem? If health insurers are still required to accept all applicants regardless of pre-existing conditions, then won't the insurers have to raise the rates on those that have insurance to make up for the failure of the healthy masses to enroll? Surely, delaying the mandate or the fines will cause less people to enroll.

The Republicans should insist that Obamacare be implemented immediately as the law prescribes with specific dates as the law prescribes. This will destroy the “demonic-rat” party. I would suggest give them Obama Care now and repeal it after the 2014 elections.

No. It’s a stupid idea.

Delay it? And give the rats a chance to get past the 2014s unscathed by their own monstrosity? I was flabberghasted the rats didn’t eat up the GOP offer to delay Mengelecare. I’m sure they now wish they had. The question is, why are there still some Republicans who want to throw the rats a lifeline by delaying it? It would be nice to see the Republicans finally do something smart and just let Ubama and the rats twist in the wind.

just my 2 cents.

at any time, for any reason,
the IRS can decide not to enforce any tax.

The damage is already done, as millions of Americans opening those cancellation letters are finding out.

In Hillary’s immortal words...”What difference, at this point, does it make?”

The democRats own this one. Let them stew in their own juices.

Its like a runaway truck on a icy hill, no matter how hard you hit the brakes its not going to stop no matter what unless you blow the living crap out of it.

Obamacare is the most deadly infectious disease ever created for liberals and democrats, its worse than plutonium dust, its terminal.

Any supporter of Obamacare is already dead politically, they just don’t know it yet, I see a major new change on the horizon that includes a third party.

No delay.

Wouldn’t it be illegal to change the dates? I thought they were part of the law.

This has been my thought all along. And now with all this talk from the WH about actually doing a delay, I think insurance companies are going to go broke or the costs are going to go up a lot for those who have insurance.

I think a delay is a bad idea.

They’re on the ropes right now over Obamacare. Don’t give them an opportunity to find a way out. Make them eat this giant steaming turd that they’ve laid.

Either way it’s a mess. 16 million policies have already been cancelled because they don’t comply with Obamacare minimum standards, 75% of enrollees are new Medicaid freeloaders, insurers are not getting the proper mix of subscribers, and doctors have no clue what is going on.

Repeal this turd root and branch.

There will be no delays for the individual mandate. Obama will not allow Ted Cruz to be vindicated.

Obviously, Republicans should refuse to go along with any delay to implement Obamacare. On a related point, a super stupid argument, being repeated by Republicans, even by Mike Lee, is that Obamacare is not ready for prime time. What, pray tell, is that supposed to mean? It horrifically suggests that there will come a time when Obamacare is right for the people. Please, Republicans stop making stupid statements like this one.

As the ‘fines’ go into the tax coffers and not to the insurance companies, I don’t see how that’ll effect anything on that end.

What I *don’t* want is for Reps to save the Dems from themselves. People need to see how bad this really is.

There are hundreds of thousands of people loosing their coverage on December 31, with only an expensive replacement that isn't really available.

A delay will be unworkable for insurance companies because they were setting their rates based upon the the mandate.

The government isn't meeting it's requirements, all the special interests have gotten their waivers, Congress has kept their employer contribution with a directive from OPM to buy gold level plans. The only group that is still living under the effect of the law for 2014 is the group this law was supposed to benefit, and those people are getting screwed.

I personally don't think Obama will go for a one year delay, because his intention all along was to pick up those Medicaid extension and extremely subsidized people into his welfare voting block. Despite their income, many of those people aren't on public assistance, but now they will be.
