Story To Share About Obamacare and Disability
Myself | 10/18/2013

Posted on 10/18/2013 12:19:26 AM PDT by My Favorite Headache

I wanted to share a quick story about something that happened in our household today and 3 days ago with a friend of mine as well of 23 years.

My wife is on permanent disability for the remainder of her life due to a number of health reasons from on and off cancer battles to other sustained health issues that prevent her from working. My friend Cory injured himself on the job a few years ago breaking his back, right knee, and shoulder. Both have been getting around $1,000.00 a month in disability.

My wife puts that money towards the various needs in her life whether they were meds or other daily and weekly needs. I have my own income from my job that provides for the household and our family. Cory on the other hand went from making $4,600.00 a month to $1,000.00 a month and had been as well paying medical costs out of pocket while scraping by to get through each month.

A letter came in today stating that my wife's disability was being cut by $200.00 a month to pay for a mandatory medicare payment every month. They also said they will review her past income again to see whether or not even MORE will have to be taken out and that it was a "possibility".

Cory's letter stated that he was having his disability check cut by $161.00 to put him on Medicare as well. Cory works with independent therapists, natural therapy, and chiropractors who take cash and work off of payment plans with him taking small payments per-visit knowing his limited income. He is on disability for 3 years until further review. Now the money that used to go towards paying his phone bill and water bill....is gone.

In the case of my wife she was under my insurance originally and when I switched companies the Cobra was too much coming off Blue Cross/Blue Shield at 1,200.00 a month for the family so we too have been cash patients. I don't mind her going on Medicare for her disability and paying into the system mainly because I am here as a back up in fiscal support for her if need be. But then they started adding in more money that would be taken out for prescription plans A B C and D. Each one was a different amount.

For those people who live alone, depend on the amount that they have had coming in to pay their bills or are like Cory....they are screwed. Being forced to pay for the healthcare and slashing their already small amount of disability they get (my wife is 32 and Cory is 41)they only paid into the system since age 16.

The letters are arriving and I have been reading on different forums all night and people are flipping out with talks of eviction, selling everything they own, and even some talking suicide because although it is not them going on ACA it is the exact off shoot of mandatory payment being taken from you whether you like it or not.

The stories and landscape is about to change drastically as these letters go out to tens of millions over the next week or two.

Methinks a huge dam is about to burst that we have never seen before and it isn't going to be pretty.

Do these people see Obamacare as the cause of the problem?

if they were actually of Medicare age....65...would they still have to deduct more from their disability?...or is it just because they’re relative young?....I have relatives that are on disability but their older....wonder if it will affect them too....

Half of them seem to. They are only now really informing themselves about the situation. I feel badly for a lot of the elderly and those families scraping to get by as they are so consumed with the insurance and hospital games that they appear blindsided by it all. Confused as all hell seems to be the true answer to your question. I know in my house we expected something like this to come along we just weren’t sure of the amount they would strip from her.

Budgets that people have been living on for years have been totally destroyed and what I was reading in one social security forum tonight had people saying they were going to have to move in with family and just pay them rent or hope they would say yes. A lot were really upset about losing independence as they were making it on their own.

Not any longer.

Good question. I don’t know. My mom is on Medicare and she has a supplemental insurance as a back up for catastrophic care. She lost 3 of her doctor’s due to ACA coming into effect because her doctors went off the exchange and petitioned the government to be taken off of ACA so they could keep their old patients who have been seeing them for decades. The government review board says a decision will be made 6 to 12 months from submission of request.

My mom is 71 and her doctors are some of the most important people in her life. Again, that’s just Medicare...not disability in her case.

Let’s not forget the erosion over the last few years brought on by jumps in food and energy costs.

The really sad thing that Obama or the democrats and congress for that matter don’t really care what happens to your mom and that she may lose her doctors. I am really nervous about the future are they just going to kill us all off?

I know. A huge majority of them are collecting SNAP benefits as it is so I am going to assume since their income is lower due to ACA it will mean that their SNAP benefits might increase? If they don’t increase the SNAP every month then we get into people starving or living without heat or electricity.

No it won't. Those stories will be covered up and the stories will be repressed in the MSM. My story is similar but I lucked out for now because I have decent health despite having MS and I am 55 and broke. I have fought just to stay alive on $1100 a month. No one cares and the government (government on all levels, state and feds) will find a reason to keep you out of the system.

But I was told once in the process that if I was Hispanic I would qualify for faster approval and more programs but that is another story all together. Of course I have the documents to back this up.....

I have a lot of experience with families members along these lines. first i’ll say for most people who are on ss of any type, you cant get a much better deal than medicare, the basic payment being $96 per month. I have to say the two example you cite are most unusual and I think few ss/ssdi/ssi recipients do not choose traditional medicare.
I’m not sure what to make of your examples, whether its the government now forcing everyone into some kind of insurance (probably likely), or something else.
and sure, its probably all the result of obamacare, and I have a sneaking suspicion that everything in this country is about to be a result of obamcare.

[Do these people see Obamacare as the cause of the problem?]

ObamaCare strips $760 billion out of Medicare over 10 years.

No power on Earth could fight a million armed citizens, much less jail them. Hitler and the Nazis had to conquer lands, disarm them and have massive help rounding up the Jews and other undesirables before they got the ball rolling on genocide. We have a good percentage of the military and a majority of the veterans, preppers and outdoorsmen over on this side. Martial law only works when you have adequate “martial” (military) to handle the populace. The FEMA headquarters for this region of the United States is so close to me that they could send a guy with a wheelbarrow or wagon to come get me, yet I fear them not.

It sounds like your wife is being penalized for not going on medicare when first eligible, which would have been 2 years after going on disability.

It happened to my step father, who is a disabled Korean War vet. He used the V.A. until he was 80 years old, then switched to medicare and his premium is $200, because he didn’t sign up for medicare when first becoming eligible. Normal medicare premiums are around $100.

“Budgets that people have been living on for years have been totally destroyed and what I was reading in one social security forum tonight had people saying they were going to have to move in with family and just pay them rent or hope they would say yes.”

You are watching the unreported currency devaluation taking place to deal with our massive debt; I’ve maintained for years that one of the ways the government would ensure the solvency of social security would be to underreport inflation to minimize increases (even as real prices rose quickly). This year they announced the smallest increase in SS payments; that is exactly what they are doing. Our retirees/disabled are now in the same position pensioners of the Soviet Union were in, and that wasn’t pretty.

In addition to class warfare the Dems have instituted generational warfare, and the young people are being turned against their elders (not just the “elderly”) over their entitlements and even holding onto jobs young people covet. Scary times...

You have documentation backing up your claim that if you were Hispanic you would get better results? I am not doubting your claim I just can’t imagine paperwork confirming the same.

They’ll make an example of a few to cow the rest; they’ll pick a few white guys to really teach us...
