“In terms of the unfilled positions: Why do so many people live in Detroit? Because they heard there were no jobs there..”

One of the things that made the US great was the mobility of labor. The reality is that now, people are trapped, not able to save enough to move or have enough spare cash to risk it. Even working people with a preexisting condition are trapped in their jobs, one of the few things Obamacare actually addressed.

Because the “struggling” U.S. families inflicted Obama on me, I really could not care less about their struggles. Their wounds are self inflicted anyhow. It is the same principle of the child that murders both parents and then tries to throw itself on the mercies of the court because it is an orphan. They put their god where he is, let them worship him. At one time I was a caring individual, but since Obama has been inflicted on me, day by day I find myself caring less and less.

Do you also have a broken back and arthritis in hips and ankles?

I’ve had an EBT card for two months. I expect to get off it in 4 months when I start collecting SS. I refuse to go for disability. Considering the fact I started working at age 15 and never accepted welfare or charity and am an honorably discharged veteran, you could lighten up.

In July my Ebay sales amounted to $70. That is how I presently make my income, and it must be at about $450 for me to support myself. It has slid because sales are off; folks are buying less.

I feed my kids organic food. No junk.

For way less than what these people get on their EBT cards/month.

They’re just lazy in the kitchen.

My kids have never eaten an oreo, twinkie or Hagen Daaz. They’ve never eaten at a McDonalds either.

My kids are not fat, either. And between the three of them they’ve had exactly one cavity.

No prepackaged, preprocessed or premade food in my house. I make everything from scratch.

If I had the EBT cards food budget we could afford for not only my kids to eat organic but my hubby and myself as well.

I don’t agree to enforcing others to pay for your food.

The methods you describe are used by intelligent people with good impulse control. Something that does not describe the average member of the underclass.

Then they can learn to redirect their impulses, just as we all do.

Aldi’s has chips and candy and such at a steep discount. If you don’t consume a large bag all by yourself in one sitting, for under $2 you can satisfy a craving for a couple of people over a few days.

One potato, a reusable 2 cups of oil and some salt will provide deep fried chips for 2 people with under 30 minutes of effort, including cleanup. Cookies, doughnuts and the like can be occasionally made at home for pennies without taking too much flour/sugar/eggs out of their essential nutrients. One piecrust, a few apples, some sugar and spices makes a quick galette that will provide 4 servings of an adequate snack or dessert. It takes maybe 15 minutes to prepare. Children and partners/spouses can even participate, making it an activity as well as a learning experience.

They _won’t_ do it? I have read some articles on the lengths prisoners go to to create a recipe with limited ingredients and a microwave. Ditto college students and people living in circumstances without ovens, stoves or even many utensils. There are many camping recipes available that also utilize limited ingredients/appliances/utensils. Somehow, where their is a will, a way can be found.

A bit of a challenge might even raise some of those IQ scores.

I have avoided the prepackaged snacks/desserts for years. Quality and quantity have declined to the point where it isn’t even satisfying, let alone worth the price.

Clean up the fraud and then we’ll talk.

I’d conjecture that the reason that the fraud isn’t addressed is that the people who are abusing the system are “politically favored” people.

I'd conjecture that it's for the usual Washington reason - it's easier to ask for more money than it is to fix any problems.

Let it revert back to a faith-based activity... without government intervention.

Understood. I pray you never find yourself in an impossible situation, like I have, where one must rely temporarily on a government program for survival.

You’re in my prayers.

Private charities such as food panties provide food ONLY.
They do NOT provide the basics like toilet paper, detergent, cleaning products.

The SNAP program DOES NOT COVER THE PURCHASE OF basic needs for people truly in need of assistance such as toilet paper, detergent, cleaning products, or any other items NOT listed under the food category. These items will not be accepted by the check-out clerk at stores and the SNAP card will not approve payment of these items at the time of purchase. So, don't get the idea that people are making a killing at the food stores while using a SNAP card. And for obozo to cut back on a person's monthly SNAP funds, is cruel and mean-spirited. When you're getting $25.00 a month in SNAP benefits, it is difficult enough to make ends meet each month.

If you will read my previous posting again, you will note that it is obozo in OUR White House who has caused many, many, many people to lose their jobs, their homes, and are struggling to feed their families, and God help them if they are elderly, ill and/or disabled. If there was ever a time when we Americans need to help those who are legitimately in need of food, clothing and shelter, it is now.

Obozo refuses to weed out the corruption that does occur in the SNAP program. He wouldn't think of reining in those people who are responsible for the corruption, and who are also his voting base. NOW THAT IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE DONE, BUT WILL NOT BE DONE BY THE SOCIALIST/MARXIST/COMMUNIST pResident in our White House. So, it is up to us to find it in our hearts to help those who legitimately need help at this most critical time. And as I've stated in my previous posting, I am NOT including the illegal aliens or those who are scamming the SNAP system.

I only hope that if you're ever in dire need, no one will turn their back on you. But if you run into someone like yourself with your attitude, they probably will. It will be a painful way, indeed, to learn a lesson.

I agree about the pre-existing condition issue; the main thing that traps people is mortgages (especially if the home was in a “dying” area). Young people cling to that mobility today by foregoing children and the homes in which to raise them.

What I don't get is why anyone should be paid to run free food distribution programs. I don't think it's a good idea to volunteer at food banks, free dinners etc. Why? People don't appreciate things that they don't earn in some way. Since these people are jobless and extremely poor, let the homeless who are being fed do the work...for free!

I'm not kidding. I never volunteer to do things that people could be doing for themselves. I never volunteer to do things that might cost a paid employee a job or hours. I never give anything to a charity that has a paid CEO.

Call me whatever. I'm SICK of people who think they're helping by enabling poverty and helplessness.

America is the only country with fat poor people.

Slight edit, if you don't mind:

America is the only country with millions of morbidly obese poor people.

A private charity will always do a much better job of sifting out the moochers from the truly needy. Since they are responsible for managing their own budget and can’t expect a steady, unlimited stream of money borrowed by the federal government coming in.

Maybe the government should respect the Constitution and not provide anyone with a dole out?
