The shutdown may be over, but Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) isn’t done making trouble for the Obama administration.

A spokesman for Mr. Cruz said Thursday that he has placed a hold on the nomination of former telecom lobbyist and venture capitalist Tom Wheeler to lead the Federal Communications Commission until Mr. Wheeler pledges not to require more disclosures from the sponsors of political ads.

Cruz spokesman Sean Rushton said by email that Mr. Wheeler has “expressed his readiness to revisit the senator’s questions.” The FCC declined to comment.

Respectfully, can someone explain to me why disclosing the funding behind political ads is a bad thing?

Thanks in advance

Good question.

Disclosing to whom?

Does the IRS act on disclosures? Or will SEIU encourage busloads of demonstrators to show up at sponsors’ homes? Or is disclosure limited to the organization level?

I have questions, too.

If Republicans and their supporters played the PR game as well as the Democrats, there would be no problem. The problem is with the media we have, along with the very effective radical Dem activists who will “Koch” every single company or individual who creates the ads which causes them not to want to donate or support Republican causes they believe in. Cowardly, I know, but if we could do Alinsky the way the Dems do... I'd be totally for it. I would volunteer in a heartbeat to Alinsky the left with the voracity of the left, but our side wants to play nice and always caves or apologizes when they do stand up for anything. Company's can't take the financial hit and bad PR. It's hard to stand steady with the media being on the other side along with the left’s radical acolytes AND Reps always backing down. No one wants to be the loser or ridiculed.

That's my take anyway...

I am reminded of the IRS effectively shutting down dozens if not hundreds of groups by demanding more disclosure.

Someone who had the power and ability to somehow hold up campaign ads (due to demanding more disclosures, follow a branch to a tree of details...) could have a similar impact.

But this is just MHO, off the top of my head.

I agree...why is it a bad thing to know who is behind a political campaign? Why shouldn’t it be easy to look up who donated to a PAC? If we’re going to say you can accept/give unlimited sums of money...we (the public) should have a right to know who is supporting/advocating/against a candidate and/or a bill.
