Well, to my knowledge (I am not a mason, but know several), they are just a fraternity, not a religious order of any kind.

So “cult” is a pretty funny word for it.

Anyway, thankfully, those evil freemasons put in the 1st Amendment, which permits freedom of association, so people can stike up whatever kind of club they want, whether you or your fellow-traveler Obama like it or not.

The first amendment pretty much guarantees the right to freely assemble amongst people of common interest. Secret organizations are not so secret if one wants to put the effort into joining them to investigate. The NSA is monitoring everything so they know all the Mason’s secrets anyway. I am not a Mason but I know about them. Some of the most Christian men that I know are Masons. The charity that they do is exemplary.

“Have any of your freemason buddies ever convinced you to do something you may not normally want to under threat of being thrown out of your society?”

Uhhh, no. We have some rituals some people might think odd but our lodge, like any Lodge whose members are mainly Christian, uses a Bible. Freemasonry never asks its members to do anything they might think immoral or threatening to their safety or that of others.

“If so, then that is exactly what is wrong with secret societies such as the masons and the weird ones like Skull and Bones.”

Uhh, I don’t know of anything about them. I was using that as just an example.

“I don’t care if people make a club and use them to do charity work... But when they start having an undue influence on the governed such as the movers and shakers in such clubs promoting a fellow member for a position of government, that creates a horrible conflict of interest.”

?? I’m a rock solid conservative, anti-Globalist, don’t like the Council on Foreign Relations, Bilderbergers or UN.
The only thing the Masons ever taught me was to be good to fellow masons and all other human beings as we are all Children of God, and to to live your life decently.

Neither the Freemasons nor my church can tell me how to think about purely political issues, although my Christian background and my biological background tells me that abortion is murder.

And I agree with you - no group should get involved in purely political issues, normally.

BUT, there ARE certain circumstances. Christian Churches were in the forefront of the fight against the Brits in 1776 AS WERE THE MASONS. Churches also got involved in the War between the States. AND if Christian Churches has stood up forcefully against a nutjob like Hitler, things might have turned out a little different in History.

Be careful about getting information from TV specials talking about wild conspiracies, or sites that are distinctly anti-Masonic. I don’t think my Knights of Columbus Friends get together in secret conclaves to plot the enthronement of the Pope in America. They are a charitable organization. My guess is they are pretty much just like us, but their group is restricted to Roman Catholics.

To be a Freemason, there are only a few requirements, you must believe in God as the word of a man whose does not cannot be taken seriously. You must be a man. You must be free-born. You must be of good character (they check) and you must want to be a Freemason of your own free will.

You have to consider that with the Republican cave on the CR many conservatives are upset now. How is it so many are sent to congress to represent the people only to sell out to big govt. and big spending? What happened? Why did they flip? What deals were made? Where is the disclosure on their seeming change of heart? We don’t know and we’re not being told. Conservatives are therefore rightfully suspicious of government officials’ membership in secret organizations whose motives may be distinctly different from their own. Many blame secrecy and secret associations within our government as the mechanism of their betrayl.

Are Freemasons in the Federal government?

Do the Freemasons have an oath of loyalty to one another?

Are Freemason fellowship, oaths and committments precedant to public law?

People are looking for the causes of their betrayl and ever-increasing subjugation and membership in secret organizations by members of government provide a very good explanation as the mechanism of that betrayl.

You are in the wrong type of organization at the wrong time in the Republic’s history.

“You are in the wrong type of organization at the wrong time in the Republic’s history.”

Well, first off I am not a freemason.

My grandfather, a Jewish doctor in a small town in France, however, was. He was abandoned by everyone he knew, except various members of the fraternity, who hid him at various locals and ultimately helped him escape.

The Nazis killed most of those freemasons because the Nazis, too, considered the Freemasons a stumbling block to their goal of world domination.

Stalin hated them, too. As do Islamists.

So, like George Washington and all the other Freemasons who helped found America, the Freemasons have all the right enemies in my book.

Good points. I agree Free Masons are effective defenses against repressive governments. Secrecy served a moral purpose at times. However in an open, representative republic what benefits do secret organizations provide particularly when members of government are members? Secret organizations can only serve as sanctuary from public disclosure and accountability thereby leading to erosion of rights and freedoms.

Whereas Freemasonry was an effective tool against political persecution in the past it now affords the means of implementing it.

It’s not the 18th century. Ironically, Freemasons in government and public service may indeed be returning Americans to aristocratic subservience.

“agree Free Masons are effective defenses against repressive governments.”

You mean, like Obama will have us be shortly?

Masons are almost always Christian or Jewish. Capitalist.

I mean, the guys who fought and died in the Alamo were almost all Freemasons -— to the point their is a special Freemason plaque at the Alamo.

The odds of such a group being in favor of government tyranny are zero.

The odds of crappy politicians joining and being useless members because they join everything to get votes, is high.
