All EBT stands for is Electronic Banking Card.

So yes, one set up as a SNAP card may only purchase food or seeds with same. But those serving as unemployment benefits for instance may work like ATM/debit cards - same as cash with no restrictions.

In my local sooper market, the fish market manager tells me that without EBT purchases, lobsters are a tiny part of his business. Same for oysters and salmon.

The whole EBT system is a joke. In fact the system is bias against those who try to better themselves.

About 3yrs ago I was unemployed (the shop I worked for closed down)and I had to collect unemployment. I applied for an EBT card a few months into it and was denied. Two months before I found a job, they finally sent me one of those cards with $15 a month for food. In the meantime I had gotten by with help for food from local charities and food banks. What really ticked me off, was the fact that some of those same people I saw loading baskets at the food banks were also loading food into baskets at the local grocery store and it was a hell of a lot more food than $15 could buy.

The whole system is a scam and a vast majority of the people who are receiving benefits are abusing the system. The bastids will have no problem rioting in the streets when their benefits get cut. They’ll probably riot at the food banks as well.
