Moscow (AFP) - Moscow police were on Monday holding almost 400 people under arrest after the Russian capital was rocked by some of its worst ethnically-fuelled rioting in years, sparked by the killing of an ethnic Russian allegedly by a Muslim migrant from the Caucasus.
An initially peaceful protest in the Biryulyovo district of Moscow to protest the killing of Yegor Shcherbakov, 25, rapidly descended into bloody clashes with the police that left the glass doors of a shopping centre smashed and cars upturned.
The crowd chanted "Russia for Russians!" and other nationalist slogans during a protest that swelled to more than 1,000 people in the industrial district of southern Moscow.
Police said Sunday evening that 380 people had been arrested over the rioting and were being questioned as part of a criminal investigation into hooliganism.
Another 14 nationalists were later arrested on a passenger train leaving the area carrying gas cannisters, police said. Six anti-riot police were injured and two are still in hospital.
Moscow police brought in hundreds of reinforcements in a bid to deal with the crisis and enforced their extreme "Vulkan" operation plan which is used in case of a terror attack.
Shcherbakov was murdered overnight Thursday in the area in front of his girlfriend as they walked out of a billiards club.
Media said that security footage showed his killer was a man of "non-Slavic appearance" from the Northern Caucasus, leading nationalists to conclude the murderer was a Muslim labour migrant.
The mass-circulation Komsomolskaya Pravda daily alleged that a fight had begun between the two men after the killer insulted the girlfriend. Shcherbakov's friends then put pictures of the suspected killer on their social network accounts in a bid to find him.

An ethnic Russian?
It is a Russian official for a White Christian.
Not a chechen is what they really mean. The man who stabbed the Russian looks more Georgian than Chechen to me, but apparently they think he is a chechen.
Russia has always been racist but they “understand” the Muslims within their ranks.
They despise them yet empower them all over the world (outside of Russia) providing them with $billions in weapons and nuclear reactors.
They have a double-standard. Violently put down any dissent within their republics but support those that operate against the West. Sometimes it backfires on them but usually they profit very well from this technique.
Biryulevo is a slum of Moscow. There is a cheapest rent and it attracts numerous specific people including immigrants, convicts and unemployed. For some reason Russian authorities do not allow ethnic enclaves but the number of immigrants still high in such a low income neighborhood.
Services are poor in the ghetto and most businesses belongs to muslims who are backed financially by their extended families in home countries while locals lacks such a luxury and struggling to get a job and education.
There is a perfect atmosphere for crime including racial riots.

Well, he is an “Asian” by UK terminology or “brown” person. I’m not an expert to distinguish between Chechens and Georgians.
I hope they find him but I am betting he has already crossed a border somewhere.
In fact I wouldn’t scroll clubs with a girlfriend in this neighborhood at night. You can get mugged by person of any ethnicity there and it is not smart to start a fight against an armed criminal if you unarmed. It is very likely if a victim himself was a gangster or something.
Well at least they stand up for themselves.
Good old “Pogrom” and it seems like the government is siding with population.
The Neo-Soviet Putin regime is siding with the non-Russians against the Russians. Russian nationalists are KGB Putin’s strongest opponents.

In Moscow they are limiting the building of more mosques.

“RACE” rioting? Russian = Caucasian. Muslim migrant from the Caucasus = Caucasian.
Cultural riots are not race riots.
