G.O.P.’s Hopes to Take Senate Are Dimming
The New York Times ^ | October 12, 2013 | JEREMY W. PETERS

Posted on 10/13/2013 5:01:16 PM PDT by Kenny

WASHINGTON — Next year was supposed to be a prime opportunity for Republicans to retake the Senate. And for a while, everything seemed to be breaking their way: a wave of Democratic retirements, a fluke in the electoral map that put a large number of races in states that President Obama lost, a strong farm team of conservative Senate hopefuls from the House.

Then the government shut down. Now, instead of sharpening their attacks on Democrats, Republicans on Capitol Hill are being forced to explain why they are not to blame and why Americans should trust them to govern both houses of Congress when the one they do run is in such disarray. Complicating the prospects, the grass-roots political force that has provided so much of the energy for conservative victories over the last four years — the Tea Party — is aggressively working against Republicans it considers not conservative enough.

As a result, many Republicans are openly worrying that the fallout from the fiscal battles paralyzing the capital will hit hardest not in the House, which seems safely in Republican hands thanks to carefully redrawn districts, but in the Senate. Republican infighting, they say, has given Democrats the cover they need to deflect blame and keep their majority.

“The Tea Party benefits when the energy is focused on the Democratic Party and their agenda,” said Brian Walsh, a Republican consultant and former strategist for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “What’s concerning is a select few groups trying to turn that fire inward on the Republican Party. And that is not helpful.”

If there is any organization with more experience with “dimming” than the New York Slimes, I am at a loss to name it.

All Senate Politics are local.

That's apparently why McConnell has been maintaining a low profile while apparently saturating the KY airwaves claimed to be to the right of Reagan.

It ain't over till it's over.

Not only defund 0bamaDontCare, pick one of two other 'Rat favorite programs for defunding.

Hey Brian, was that your effort in 12'? you know the one that many of us sent a great deal of money to give President Romney a Conservative Senate, cause if it was, in the words of Donald Trump, Your Fired. because it sucked and failed, and we are firing inward because those inward have been firing volleys at us since you tried to take out Palin in 08' and we have ****ing had it with you and your dang Party!

I feel better now...

The leftist toads were spewing this crap before the 2012 election also. It’s BS. As long as those who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living, the Senate will always be ruled by the DemocRATS and their commie lib RINO toadies.

Uh... oh....
The New York Times columnist is inferring here that the GOP needs to cave, and cave fast, if they want to improve their poll numbers. Yessirree, caving is just what will attract new voters top the GOP.

It’s nice to know the NYT is concerned about the GOP’s electoral success.

If their hopes are dimming its because of phonies like McCain, and poltroons like McConnell.

The Tea Party is showing them the way to succeed, but they are either too stupid or too cowardly to listen.

As I told some whiney liberal tonight who was screeching about Obamacare being "THE LAW OF THE LAND". Not only are we going to overturn Obamacare, we're taking a chainsaw to the base of the whole liberal ivory tower and they'll have to go all the way if they hope to have any chance of stopping us.

Now, instead of sharpening their attacks on Democrats, Republicans on Capitol Hill are being forced to explain why they are not to blame

Explain it to who? The democrats? Independents and republicans don't need an explanation. We elected these people to prevent government from spending our money foolishly. Finally, they are starting to do their job. No explanation necessary.

Republicans in Chaos.
Republicans to lose Senate AGAIN.
Republicans to lose House.
Republicans to be in reeducation camps before end of
Obama’s third term...
