Cop Charged in SUV Assault Worked Undercover for Occupy Wall Street, Sources Say

The undercover narcotics cop accused of assaulting the driver of an SUV in the highly publicized incident of road rage last month infiltrated the Occupy Wall Street group for police, according to law enforcement sources.

He was even "arrested" at one of their protests, one member of the group says.

Police this week charged the cop, Wojciech Braszczok, 32, with gang assault, assault and criminal mischief in connection with the Sept. 29 attack in New York City on SUV driver Alexian Lien.

But new details have emerged about Braszczok's apparent double-life as a member of the New York City Police Department. Braszczok was known within the Occupy Wall Street movement as "Al," according to the group member.

Braszczok apparently showed up at Occupy Wall Street parties and was "arrested" at a protest last year, according to the member of the group. It's unclear whether that was a bogus move to strengthen his cover.

Braszczok also maintained a Twitter account that promoted the movement's call to action, which ABC News has verified belonged to the officer.

Nicholas Casale, a former NYPD detective, says Braszczok's apparent infiltration of the Occupy movement is part of the job of being an undercover cop.

"The undercover has to be the actor," said Casale, who has no connection to this case. "He never can take on the norms, the mores, the social culture of the bad guy."

Lien's wife and 2-year-old daughter were also in the car at the time of the assault and that's where Casale said Braszczok's focus should have been.

"His loyalty should have been to the innocent man, his wife and child in the car," he said.

The way the headline was written, it actually implies that the officer in question was working undercover ON BEHALF OF “Occupy Wall Street”.

one of the risks of undercovers: "going native" AKA forgetting which side you are on.

“The way the headline was written, it actually implies that the officer in question was working undercover ON BEHALF OF “Occupy Wall Street”.”

Everybody is a journalist, left and right.

We live in an information overload age.

The quality of the information, the quality of thinking and judgment involved, and the quality of the people involved, are hardly the priorities.

There have been some films, involving undercover roles, and the moral questions when certain situations occur.

This man has known all his life which side he was on, and it isn’t the side of law and order.

An undercover New York City Police Department narcotics cop by the name of......who????? And they are publishing a real name? The name’s got to be undercover too otherwise this guy is outed forever. Where do these police academy candidates come from? Russia? Poland? Serbia? Why don’t we have Caucasian American policemen? I walk into a state agency office where I live and there isn’t a Caucasian English-speaking person to be found. Everyone is a minority with an accent. On TV in the ads all of the crime victims are middle-class cleaned up (sanitized) minorities who speak perfect English while all the perps are white males who slur their words. This is in direct contradiction of FBI crime statistics which indicate most of the violent crime in America is committed by members of so-called minorities, not by whites. So why aren’t advertisers and their agencies being held to truth in advertising standards? On the Joint Chiefs Of Staff at the Pentagon there are some generals whose last names are literally unpronounceable. Try to go through a brochure for a health care plan—any plan. The photos are all of minority families frolicking in flowered fields dressed to the nines with thousand dollar haircuts and hundred thousand dollar sets of teeth in their smiling mouths. There isn’t a Caucasian male or female to be found amongst them. Why is the American public being inundated with reality twisting images and hiring practices, with nary a whimper of protest from the target audience against whom these distortions and outright discriminatory practices are aimed?

“Worked Undercover for Occupy Wall Street”
The headline writer should be fired. It is the exact opposite.

But that is irrelevant. He took part in the attack and needs to go to jail. And be charged with a hate crime.

Question: Was he undercover cop working for the PD, or undercover working as a biker for the motorcycle gang??
