Cruz slams immigration hecklers: ‘They don’t want the truth to be heard’
Washington Times ^ | Friday, October 11, 2013 | Seth McLaughlin

Illegal immigrant advocates interrupted Sen. Ted Cruz’s speech to the Values Voters Summit on Friday more than a dozen times on, calling on the Texas Republican and potential presidential candidate to support a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

But the Texas Republican repeatedly deflected the criticism, turning it into an attack against President Obama.

“How scared is the president?” Mr. Cruz said. “Oh, they don’t want the truth to be heard. They definitely don’t want the truth to be heard.”

The crowd also tried to drown out the protestors with chants of “USA! USA!”

The protesters were dragged out by security guards.

Mr. Cruz opposed the immigration reform bill that GOP Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida helped to steer through the Democratic-controlled Senate, where it passed on a 68-32 vote, garnering the support of 14 Republicans.

The GOP-controlled House has not taken up the bill, which would grant quick legal status and work permits to most illegal immigrants. But it would withhold a full path to citizenship until a number of border security benchmarks are met.

“The message we were trying to get to the Republican Party was that if they want to get Latino vote once again, they need to support immigration reform,” Salvador Cervantes, who refused to give his group’s name. “An immigration reform bill that gives legal status to people who are living without documents — good people.”

Carolina Canizales, 23, a member of United We Dream, said she came to the country undocumented and that Mr. Cruz has refused to listen to advocates of immigration reform.

“There is one reality that we are always having: There are 1,400 people being deported every day,” Ms. Canizales said. “Sen. Cruz is a Latino and should champion our population of Latinos.”

“The message we were trying to get to the Republican Party was that if they want to get Latino vote once again, they need to support immigration reform,” Salvador Cervantes, who refused to give his group’s name.

Nothing but self-serving lies. The highest Latino support Republicans have had was around 40%, and that has fallen to around 30% due to both past legal and illegal immigration that resulted in amnesty for the illegals.

And polls have shown that recent arrivals would vote about 80% Dim.

The real question is how any Republican could believe that supporting amnesty for illegal aliens could ever result in gains for the party.

one of several fallacies with the Senate bill is that although they withhold citizenship until several benchmarks are satisfied, there is no doubt in the world that the first bill filed in federal court to will remove the requirement, will succeed, and citizenship will quickly follow - of that you can be certain!

Doesn't matter, it's still Amnesty.

Don't fall for their ruse!

So the lady just up and comes illegally into the USA and then has the fortitude to tell the Nation that It must give recognition to her presence. Why doesn’t the young lady use her energies to make her homeland a desirable country? These kind of persons do not believe any social restrictions apply to them. Send them back to the home country.

“Sen. Cruz is a Latino and should champion our population of Latinos.”

Racist.

This isn’t about a race. It is about illegal immigration. If one race is over-represented, it does not make this a racial issue.

I’m sure that if the R party supported Obamacare, homosexual marriage, and huge increases in all of the entitlements and the public hanging of anyone earning more than a million dollars a year (except professional athletes, those in the film industry and rap stars) they would get a lot more votes too.

Why don't the remaining GOP Senators who did not support Rubio's Obama-Lite amnesty bill also speak out? Is Cruz the only one with the sense and courage to do so?

No, I think he was a Pacific Islander, maybe polynesian. Owned an island. The old-style Klingons remind me of illegals, invading our space, destroying things, trashing stuff and not listening to reason. Plus you can never get rid of them.

GOOD!

“Ms. Canizales said. “Sen. Cruz is a Latino and should champion our population of Latinos.”

So she is angry Cruz isn’t a Latino racist subject to groupthink.

““Sen. Cruz is a Latino and should champion our population of Latinos.” What bull****!

I’m Latina-and my ancestors were already in America before there was one-so I guess that stupid girl thinks I’m an ethnic traitor, too. Ted Cruz supports everyone who is in this country legally-the ones like her need to be sent back, do not pass go, do not collect $200.00...

For the same reason Cruz wouldn’t want to talk to a convicted bank robber looking for a pardon.

Illegal immigrants are CRIMINALS that have violated Federal law.
