I figure the economy will surely be tanked by this time next year with everyone’s discretionary income swallowed up by this beast.

This is the sole reason Obama "won't negotiate" on the government shutdown and the debt ceiling limit. He needs an issue, one that people believe caused the economy to crash, to blame on the republicans. This is why he has predicted the Republicans shutting down the government will send the economy back into recession. In reality, it's going to be Obamacare that, in 2014, sends an already pitiful economy, to the depths we've not seen since Jimmy Carter.
