Gun limits could lead to recalls of [California] legislators

Gun-rights advocates are ready to launch a recall attempt aimed at some of California's most vulnerable Democratic state lawmakers - and the party's supermajority hold on the Legislature - if Gov. Jerry Brown signs some of the dozen-plus gun-control bills sitting on his desk.

They're emboldened by the successful recalls last month of two Colorado Democratic legislators who supported gun restrictions, including the leader of the state Senate. Voters replaced both with Republicans.

"As soon as the results came in Colorado, our phones started ringing," said Jennifer Kerns, the California political consultant who helped lead the Colorado recalls. "Until then, a lot of people thought California was a lost state (on gun-rights issues). But Colorado showed them it doesn't have to be."

Brown wouldn't be a recall target, organizers said. The costs are too great - perhaps $2 million - to gather enough signatures to put a statewide recall on the ballot.

Instead, gun-rights activists are focused on legislators who voted for the gun bills before Brown, a list that includes nearly every Democrat in Sacramento.

The big advantage: Gathering signatures to recall an Assembly or state Senate member is comparatively cheap.

Colorado, yes; California, probably not.

California, probably not

Some of the Democrats won narrowly because Obama was on the ballot. If only a few Democrats were defeated, the RAT super majority in the Assembly could be thwarted ... that itself would be a win.

This is in my state. We are rallying the troops up and the NRA is prepared to sue over SB374, which permanently bans any weapon deemed an assault rifle. There are even non-AR and non-AK type weapons with stocks, such as the SKS which made this list of ‘evil guns’.

They also set up a registration system so that they can arbitrarily confiscate the moment a crime with an AW is committed.

Someone may attempt to get the ball rolling but I got a feelin’ the fruits and nuts will far outnumber the kali patriots. I also saw where the kolorado second round of recall activity is probably not going to happen. Such beautiful states laid waste by liberals. Purty friggin’ sad.

There are a lot of Republicans in CA.

That being said, about 2 years ago I sat next to one on a flight and we started talking politics. He was an older Republican white male and he thought obama was doing a good job. Opened my eyes to CA “Republicans”

Sheesh, first tax me into oblivion, demand my diet not include foods I've eaten all my life, that's OK.

Touch my gun, I'm outta here or you're outta there?

Sorry, I love visiting some places in CA but wouldn't ever consider living there.

One has to have a serious psychosis to believe life should be lived in that Hell, er, I mean Nirvana!

I’d forego it here. Here, you’d lose, and take some of the momentum out of the recall movement.

So you know that he was pulling my chain even though I was the one talking to him for 2 hours and you never met him?

Seriously?

You have a good point. Sorry. Did he say he voted for Obama? You must have been frustrated.

That’s the same in New England or should I say the north east.

I’ve met many of them when I worked up there.

I think the chances of successful recalls against Assembly members and Senate members in California are better than most people think they are. The Democrats knew they were playing with fire, and hopefully they will start getting singed. Just a couple successful recalls can change the balance back to where the Republicans can start halting any further tax increases.

I’m an active “Gun Rights are Civil Right” activist here, and since I’m being laid off Tuesday, I’ll have lots of free time to be “ boots on the ground” for this effort.

There are several vulnerable Assembly members and State Senators where the effort could succeed. The key will be grassroots participation and funding.
