Is GOP Caving With Victory At Hand?

Shutdown: Obama's approval rating has cratered, Democrats are fighting among themselves and ObamaCare — the reason for the shutdown in the first place — has been a disaster. So why are Republicans' knees shaking?

The federal government's hometown newspaper, the Washington Post, reports "key GOP figures" are "abandoning their bid to immediately stop the federal health care law" and are "scrambling for a fallback strategy." Republicans, the paper claims, "have overreached," and their plan to stop ObamaCare has been "politically disastrous" and a "failure."

House leaders seem to be dropping talk of Obama-Care and, over in the Senate, Republicans appear ready to push only the repeal of ObamaCare's medical device tax, which already has wide bipartisan support.

Obviously the polls haven't been great for Republicans — their favorability rating is down to 28% in Gallup's latest survey. But look past the liberal media spin and the evidence suggests the GOP is actually at risk of quitting while it's ahead. Consider:

• Obama's poll numbers are tanking. The AP finds his approval rating has dropped to 37%. Gallup has him at 44%. Our IBD/TIPP Poll, which covered the first couple of days of the shutdown, found that 53% disapprove of Obama's leadership. As Rush Limbaugh wondered: Obama's approval "is down to 37%, and Republicans still think they're losing?"

• The administration is looking increasing petulant. Besides the arbitrary and heavy-handed actions by the National Park Service and other federal agencies detailed in this space, National Park Service goons apparently removed the handles from water faucets along the Chesapeake and Ohio canal. The rank politicization of the shutdown hasn't been lost on the public.

It certainly appears to be the case

If they do, that’s probably the end of the GOP.

I’ll be voting third party if they cave.

The party of McCain and Romney. Too afraid to take the gloves off and go toe to toe with the most liberal president and democrat gaggle ever. Vaginas.

I think the correct phrase is, ‘snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.’

The ‘Tony Romo’ of parties, plays great for most of game, but you just know at that crucial time, he’ll blow the game.

Losers act like losers. the GOP in DC is all but dead. We have two choices....vote out the ones leading the charge to damage the conservative movement to take over the party, or go 3rd party. I am normally one to focus on reforming the party, but it just may be lost.

It’s over. Just check the major news reports: “GOP at fault”. Period. The Senate GOP and House “leadership” cannot stand up to Brian Williams and the Washington Post, let alone Obama. The battle is already lost.

We saw this movie before in 2011. It has a bad ending. We are going to get a six week extension to the Holidays. Then when few are paying attention to politics there will be another dead of night deal. Kenyancare fully funded and debt limit extension past the election.

The losers in the beltway GOP leadership are punting again.

The state-run media are declaring victory over the worst politicians on earth, Republican “moderates,” who never tire of playing Elected Door Mats for the Left. Shame on you voters who send these quislings to surrender in D.C. every two years.

There IS NO REPUBLICAN PARTY.

There is, however, a ‘republican wing’ of the GOVERNMENT PARTY.

There are a coupla guys like Cruz—but that’s ALL.

Plagiarizing ME from earlier:

The ACA monstrosity is SO economically ruinous and irreversibly unwholesome for this country that is WORTH the careers of a few (all if necessary) Republican Congressmen!

• What the h%$# is more important than THIS fight?
• WHAT on earth in their long, (and otherwise pathetically mediocre and unremarkable careers) could possibly mean more than this challenge?
• Which one of these clowns (I have to call them that NOW) could EVER engage themselves or risk their ‘careers’ more creditably than in opposing THIS?
• What do they have to do in their lives that will EVER mean more than this?
• Who are THEY to place themselves above the situation, for ANY reason?
• If they CANNOT meet this challenge, why are they in politics AT ALL?
• If they do NOT challenge this wholly and heartily, how will they EVER redeem themselves?

Mostly, I am SO disgusted with the Republican Congressmen because the whole thing got THIS far!!

My take is that if they do it was the plan all along. This may be going better for them than they wanted it to and now they are going to look, well, stupid, caving when they are winning.

I’ll wait to see if they cave. But if they do, it will be the final straw for me. Your statement will be the obvious reality.
