House Speaker John A. Boehner said Thursday hell offer President Obama the short-term debt increase the White House has demanded in exchange for a framework that will open up negotiations on spending and broader budget issues setting up a potential repeat of the 2011 debt talks.
After conferring with fellow Republicans, Mr. Boehner said he will appoint conferees to negotiate a broader budget and will give Mr. Obama immediate debt authority, but said its possible all sides will be back in the exact same place weeks from now if they dont strike a deal.
He also declined to say exactly what strings will be attached, saying that will all be worked out when Republican leaders meet with the president at the White House later Thursday evening.
I dont want to put anything on the table, I dont want to take anything off the table, he said.
President Obama floated the idea of a short-term increase earlier this week, saying he would be willing to sit down and talk about bigger issues once the immediate threat of hitting the debt limit is overcome.

There are no balls in DC
If we get even something as small as ‘chained CPI’ for a short-term hike I’ll be ecstatic.
How can it be short term? They raise the debt ceiling, Obama borrows, and then they say he can’t? But I guess this plays well with the low information crowd.
GOP - the party of unilateral concessions
I’m done with this idiot crybaby Boehner and the marshmallow spined GOP leadership. I’m at the post office now re-registering as an independent. The hell with the Republican Party now. If they won’t stand up for the people who are keeping this country afloat, namely us, they don’t deserve any more of our votes.
It doesn’t sound like they approved a new CR, if so then the gov. is still “shutdown”.
Ah, the small surrender flag is raised....in order to allow the RINOublicans to prepare the larger one for use later on.
RIP Repubs.
Not sad to see you sorry Obamaholes go.
What a bunch of pathetic, flea and lice infected lapdogs.
“If we get even something as small as chained CPI for a short-term hike Ill be ecstatic.”
Chained to what? The fake numbers obama has been pulling out of his a$$ for the last 5 years?
Change “... setting up a potential repeat of the 2011 debt talks....”
to “setting a potential repeat of the 2011 surrender by the Republicans along with the final end phase of the Republican party after conservatives finally realize that Boehner and his cronies have the collective IQ of an Obama voter, the leadership ability of the Hillabeast, and the morality of Bubba.”
If the debt limit is raised but there isn’t a CRA then what happens? Is this putting OBongo in a corner where the debt limit increase doesn’t matter unless the AffordableHealthScare Act isn’t delayed? I’m confused.
Hey, didn’t the Democratic congress de-fund America’s treaty obligations to South Vietnam in the 1970s, leading to that regime’s fall? Wasn’t the treaty “settled law”? Why is no one mentioning this?
If I didn’t know the history of GOP caves, I would look at this as merely a method to call the president to show his cards.
Unfortunately, our side is always folding when they “only” have 2 pair and the president is holding garbage cards because.
My take is that debt limit increase is ONLY for the headline that will pacify the uninformed. Government will remained shut-down as a completely separate issue.
Obama is Lucy with the football, and Boehner is Charlie Brown.
Republicans just blinked.
If I were Urkel I would now go for the throat as he has not only won BIG but has also arranged for the not too distant toppling of Boehner.
They will be celebrating at Moochelle’s tonight.
I expect that this is a device to force negotiation on Obama’s part. The real question is, when he reneges (and he absolutely will), how to paint him as the villian.
