VA outlines scope of cuts to veterans

The Veterans Affairs Department has been able to maintain most operations amid the government shutdown, but Secretary Eric K. Shinseki warned Congress on Wednesday that it will soon have to halt payments to more than five million beneficiaries.

Mr. Shinseki said that by next month he will likely run out of money to cover disability and pension payments to veterans and surviving spouse, and will also have to halt GI Bill payments for education expenses.

“Before the end of the month, the mandatory account will not support payments in November — even though I will have checks lined up to draw against it,” Mr. Shinseki told the House Veterans Affairs Committee, adding the shutdown will also bog down the agencies recent efforts to reduce the backlog of disability claims. “Nearly 5,600 veterans a day will not receive a decision on their disability claims.”

The VA had been one of the few bright spots where the government continued to operate almost at full tilt despite the shutdown, which began Oct. 1. Most VA programs are funded through mandatory and advance appropriations, which insulated them from the lapse in regular government funds.

But Mr. Shinseki said that is ending.

Does the refusal of Commander in Chief Obama to pay for the Funeral expenses of HIS four dead Warriors rise to the level of an Impeachable Offense?

“Generally, dereliction of duty refers to failure through negligence or obstinacy to perform one’s legal or moral duty to a reasonable expectation. In other words, it means willful or negligent failure to perform assigned duties or performing them in a culpably inefficient manner. Dereliction of duty is a specific offense in military law. “ (Quote from USLegal.com).

Dereliction of duty is an Impeachable Offense, as stipulated in the US Constitution. Dereliction of duty is also a US Military offense subject to a US Military Courts Martial.

Will our sorry Congressional RINOs do their usual kid gloves, “boys will be boys” approach to Obama’s numerous violations of the US Constitution, or will they FINALLY draw up The Articles of Impeachment for B. Hussein Obama?

Millington TN commissary was open today for the first time, prices have gone out the roof, better to shop the local grocery stores like Kroger’s which gives gas points. I’ve bought enough groceries and gift cards to earn $1.00 OFF THE NEXT 35 GALLONS OF GAS!

The dirty little secret is that the VA hasn't been supporting vets with timely disposition of claims for at least the past 4 years.

Republicans said that Congress could fix the potential problem by acting on a House bill that passed on a 421-4 vote over the summer that would fund the VA through Sept. 30, 2014. The House also passed a resolution last week to continue funding veterans benefits.

House Republicans and Democrats have acted to fully fund the VA. But Harry and Barry prefer to play stompyfoot. They and they alone are to blame.

No other government agency or business could get away with the lack of concern the VA shows people.

It isn’t “shutdown”, it is a “shakedown” a la Chicago.

Yeah, boo hoo, the commissary’s closed....
Coupon it, use military discount and get cents off gas (my Farm Fresh does it too...for wine purchases, no less! Yay!) and you are not being charged that service fee for commissary use....

I've had a very simple claim (with all supporting paperwork) in since early December 2011. All I can get out of the VA its that their standard processing times is 159 days. They are a *bit* late.

The dirty little secret is that the VA hasn’t been supporting vets with timely disposition of claims for at least the past 4 years.

Didn’t the spiteful child say that disabled vets should find jobs in the private sector and getthe employers’ insurance to pick up the tab? That military service was just another job, and those who took that job knew the risks, so if they got injured - tough cookies?

This regime, and most leftists, HATE the military. When I was in Minnesota, leftards from Minneapolis expounded the view that anyone with a military background should not be allowed to participate in the political process - even voting. Somehow the likes of Tammy Baldwin and the Murtha (censored) get a pass.

There’s bad news and good news about Shinseki. The bad news is that the VA still doesn’t care about people. The good news is that Shinseki is going to see to it that all Vets get to buy black berets.

After my grocery shopping and 1 BD gift card for Amazon for one of our grands. I now have $1.00 off gas. The grands and the eldest great grand like gift cards so they can buy what they want. 3 youngest mom’s like gift cards so they can get what the child really needs works out just fine.

Our commissary opened yesterday. prices were about double the shut down prices. Exchange already has Christmas stuff up.

Don’t you love this deal? My Farm Fresh put up the gas station just before we had the Obama increase in gas price so I became a believer real fast after that. We moved to the country the end of Bushie’s term when gas was $1.50 or so...then Obozo and kapow!
And people wonder where the disgust comes from.....
