And with that one decision – restaurant owner Glenn Helseth joined the ranks of Americans who’ve decided to defy the strong-arm tactics of the National Park Service.
For the past 11 years Helseth and his wife have operated the Carrot Tree Kitchens Restaurant inside the historic Cole Digges House in Yorktown, Va.
At least 20 of Helseth's longtime employees are facing unemployment. They can’t make rent and some are faced with choosing between buying food or buying medicine.
The National Park Service owns and operates the building. So when the government shut down on Oct. 1, the Helseths were given 48 hours to pack up and move out.
The couple also owns a restaurant on Jamestown Island. They had to close that restaurant after the National Park Service blocked access to the island.

More people do need to resist. Maybe a park ranger spending the night in his own handcuffs will help remind them.
I think they want a revolt or insurrection so that they can declare martial law. I wonder if they know what kind of fire they’re playing with. There’s more than 100 million of us and we’re so heavily armed it’s ridiculous. Who do they think bought the vast majority of those 90 million firearms and billions of rounds since November 2008?
The Park Service is in for some serious retribution...

As I keep hearing about all the places the government is closing I am thinking the government owns too much that should change.

I will be on the National Mall visiting the war memorials paid with private money, and the blood of our military. Stand aside Park Rangers.
The NPS needs to be dissolved and the properties distributed to the respective States.
He and others need to read their contracts carefully and get an attorney on a contingency basis if there is a case and sue the living crap out of the government.
I can’t see how this could be allowed under the lease terms. It certainly isn’t force majure. Obastard may think he is god but I believe a higher power will put him in his place eventually.
I think they’re counting on us having a conscience and an inability to kill a man.
The NPS needs to be prosecuted for civil rights violations.

The upper echelon of the NPS needs to spend more time looking over their collective shoulder.
Most of us, perhaps. But ALL of us? Would you bet your life on that?

He blames the U.S.Congress for the shutdown. Claims they are playing politics.
Get a grip on reality, Glenn. It is the liar in the White House, BHO2, who is causing you grief.
