Government doors closed, but workers may get paid

WASHINGTON (AP) — Their government has failed to keep the doors open and has told federal workers to stay off the job as the political parties fight over spending and health care in austere times.

Now Congress and President Barack Obama are sending this message to the 800,000 sidelined government employees: We don't know when the impasses will end but you will get reimbursed for lost pay once the government reopens.

With the partial shutdown entering its fifth day, the GOP-run House passed a bill Saturday that would make sure the furloughed workers get paid for not working. The White House backs the bill and the Senate was expected to OK it, too, but the timing was unclear.

The 407-0 vote in the House was uniquely bipartisan, even as lawmakers continued their partisan rhetoric.

Now they should focus on getting everyone working for Congress, all those up on the Hill and in the White House, signed up for Obamacare......

The taxpayers - those who are forced to pay for it all - don't get this type of royal treatment. We lose weeks worth of pay and have to sign up for unemployment.

, Reid and Obama already agreed to this. Typical shutdown fiasco.
GOP did the same thing when they caved to Clinton in 1996, something I been reminding freepers for years, but lost in those romantic tellings of the story on talk radio.

Parks are closed but we taxpayers must pay them ANYWAY as if they were working, etc with other agencies. Hell, dont they get eight paid weeks vacation anyway? Why do they need this?

Obama’s people are trolling for hard case stories from gov’t workers.

Paying them is a great tactic to achieve the larger strategic objective.

The goal is to destroy Obamacare, and buying off government workers will relieve much of the pressure on some pubbies to cave.

No it just makes them look stupid and another incentive to cave.

Obama care is still funded and going forward, they didnt stop that.

What they did do is make us pay to have all the parks open and others services until the shutdown ends, that we don't get because they are off while being paid by us taxpayers, Hell, don't they already get eight paid weeks vacation?? Why do they need this?

And they are not even on Obamacare themselves(these GSs getting off) ,

The longer the shutdown continues the stupider it is, the more the taxpayer gets screwed by every house member by this vote. Every one of them caved, even the 'Tea party heroes' voting for this.
