Priests face arrest for celebrating Mass in defiance of shutdown

World War II Veterans denied access to their memorial is appalling. But, Catholic priests denied the opportunity to celebrate Mass, even as volunteers, leaves me speechless. Read below from the general counsel of the Archdiocese for Military Services as he explains priests that defy the governments orders may even face arrest.

"If the government shutdown continues through the weekend, there will be no Catholic priest to celebrate Mass this Sunday in the chapels at some U.S. military installations where non-active-duty priests serve as government contractors."

"Military personnel enjoy, like all Americans, the First Amendment guarantee of the 'Free Exercise' of their particular religious faith. But because military personnel are considered a 'captive audience,' the laws of our country require the government to provide access to that faith. This is why we have military chaplaincy. This all becomes very clear when on thinks of a military family stationed in Bahrain or Japan. They cannot walk down the street to the local synagogue, church, mosque, etc."

"There is a chronic shortage of active duty Catholic chaplains. While roughly 25% of the military is Catholic, Catholic priests make up only about 8% of the chaplain corps. That means approximately 275,000 men and women in uniform, and their families, are served by only 234 active-duty priests. The temporary solution to this shortage is to provide GS and contract priests. These men are employed by the government to ensure that a priest is available when an active duty Catholic Chaplain is not present. With the government shutdown, GS and contract priests who minister to Catholics on military bases worldwide are not permitted to work – not even to volunteer. During the shutdown, it is illegal for them to minister on base and they risk being arrested if they attempt to do so." Read more here.

Just how would it look if, during the Consecration, a pack of gun-toting JBT’s marched up the aisle and hauled the good father of the altar? For the dumba$$ Catholics that voted for Obama, I would hope that would be a huge wake up call. To see Zero for what he truly is. And we all know what that is.

Watch and see.

That ‘great’ Catholic Nancy Pelosi will be at Quantico protesting this awful effect of the Republican’s meanness...

Harry will send a couple Dem Senators too. All the Dem media will be ordered to cover it and not mention that these Dems blocked bills to fund the activity.

But are the Muslims in the military going to be allowed to trot their prayer rugs out?

Why? We have an enemy of the US running the US, so nothing he does leaves me speechless nor surprises me. If Congress wants to sit on its ass while this lunatic steamrollers over one US institution after another, so be it...But we the people are prepared and we are ARMED mofos.

Didn't they pass a bill to fund the military? Wouldn't this include the clergy or was that explicitly denied?

I still can't find any info on if mooselimbs can hold Friday prayers. I think Americans would find it very interesting if mooselimbs were allowed to hold prayers while Christians were denied.

House to Obama: Let furloughed chaplains serve the military "Furloughed chaplains should be able to give prayer services on a volunteer basis, according to a House vote on Saturday.

Furloughed chaplains should be able to give prayer services on a volunteer basis, according to a House vote on Saturday.

The House resolution approved in a 400-1 vote argues the Obama administration should allow contract chaplains who have been furloughed to continue offering prayer services on a volunteer basis.

Right now, chaplains who do so could be charged with trespassing or arrested because of the government shutdown.

The only "no" vote came from Rep. Bill Enyart (D-Ill.)........................"

The easiest way to fix this problem is to have Catholic clergy advise Catholics to leave the armed forces in droves. A committed, faithful Catholic has no business serving Caesar when Caesar can no longer justify his existence in the eyes of God and man.

It's not madness. It's HATRED!
It's hatred of America, Hatred of Christianity, hatred of liberty -- just plain hatred of everything decent and good.
The Democrats and their Demon Leader consist of nothing but hate for America and in particular white Christian America.

I hope every priest available joins them in celebrating Mass. I would just love to see obama’s thugs arresting a crowd of priests. Great photo op, eh barack?

Of course, some of my “progressive” Catholic friends would probably say they deserve to be sent to prison for disobeying the master.

These people just LOVE throwing their weight arround and threatening people.

You are correct. I would also assume that freedom of speech, and the right of the people peaceably to assemble both apply and both take precedence over an illegitimate command from an illegitimate leader. But we could be wrong and Obama’s minions could be correct. We will see who is right in a country that has now been fundamentally transformed - as the communist tyrant promised.

Better yet, where the hell are the Bishops? They should be conducting the Mass. Let Obama try arresting the Bishops. The Media couldn’t ignore that. But too many of these Bishops and Cardinals are spineless and love Obama, so it doesn’t look like they “habet duos testiculos et bene pendentes”.
