Last time I was in San Fran... the Giants still played at Candlestick... we made a special trip to visit the coastal defense batteries. I have been inside the bunkers... it’s amazing... you can picture all the shells and powder.m. and the little cubby holes where a lantern would be place for lighting.

Please keep us informed how things go... this weekend is critical... there needs to be a red line that we will not alloww this regime to cross, and instant action when it overreaches. IT IS HAPPENING NOW. People better be tearing down these gates this weekend or it’s over.

I might go buy a pair of bolt cutters tomorrow morning and go and open up a few scenic overlooks that are Barrackaded in my neck of the woods.

Status Report: We couldn't get to Lake Mead today. The one paved road going into the South Cove launch site was barricaded with an NPS truck on the other side of the barricade. We stopped at the barricade (no way to drive around it) and the ranger came out (gun in holster) to inform us about the closure.

Funny thing is, my wife and I know this ranger. He seemed to sympathize with our cause, but there was no way any vehicle could get past his road block.

The largest reservoir in the nation -- Lake Mead -- is totally deserted. They even forced all the boat owners in any marina to remove their boats from the lake, and they stopped all the river-running outfits from entering Lake Mead from the Grand Canyon.

Yes, it really is. The largest reservoir -- and the 4th most visited NP site-- is a veritable ghost town. According to the ranger, the NP thugs gave all boat owners 3 days to remove their boats from the lake's marinas. He didn't say what would happen to any boat after the 3-day interval, but I can assume they would impound it.

I added some signage of my own at the scenic overlooks at Allegheny Reservoir in ANF... made up handbills on bright orange cardstock to put on the windshields of all the cars parked at the closed and locked gates... big smile on my face when I put one on the Prius with the Obama/Biden 2012 bumper sticker.
