Any plan that covers routine health care isn't an insurance policy at all. It's a pre-paid medical plan, and the premiums for young people are very high because they're also pre-paying the medical costs for older people in the same insurance pool. It's sort of like being 25 years old and buying a life insurance policy based on the actuarial tables of a 70 year-old man.
And that is why the dems will fold... The republicans will say in nov.... take a look at your insurance.... The democrats did this too you and it Is YOUR fault. Now you can fix it.
Give this guy a year and come back and interview him and see if he’s still paying for it
No need to wait for the end of the year for the subsidies, if that's what you're talking about. They are applied "up-front" in the month the premium is due, unless you request otherwise.
Sounds like that’s what everyone is getting, then. My own costs, according to the Kaiser calculator, for myself, wife, and one child, is something like 9 grand a year for the “silver” level plan, with a $13,000 out-of-pocket cap, and they didn’t lay out what percentage of the cost after the cap I would be responsible for. It’s really unlikely I’ll ever come close to that cap in a normal year, and if I ever do need the insurance, I’m going to be out >$25,000 that year. Right now, the total billed “cost” to have a baby is something like $30,000 for a 3-day stay with normal delivery. A caesarian would probably kick that even higher. Before this Obamination, a friend of mine on a “normal” employer insurance policy had a total out-of-pocket of $500 for his kid’s birth.
Assuming the calculator is even vaguely correct, I’ll have to hit that $13,000 cap, then maybe 20% of the amount above the cap, for another $6000 easy (for 20% that $30,000 delivery bill), plus my yearly $9000. That’s supposed to be “affordable”. Even if the “out of pocket” is a hard cap, to include percentage of cost above some deductible level, I’ll still be out that $25 grand for what used to be a “normal” life event.
Oh, and thanks to all the onerous new regs and requirements in ACA, I’m almost certain my wife won’t get the kind of personal attention from her OB/GYN that patients could get in the past, since the OB/GYN will now be reduced to assembly-line status if we even are allowed to use one (and not some PA).
the folks in washdc don’t care. especially the dems. keep in mind, the model they’ve been following for years is... get someone on welfare and dems gain a voter
Sorry, no sympathy from me. I just cannot relate to anyone still living with their parents till age 28....Sorry,just didn’t happen in my generation.
“I know some nurses who worship obama and praised obamacare. I dont speak to them anymore. I got tired of being called a dummy. But Id sure like to see their faces when they see their new premiums. hee hee”
I’d love to see the reactions of the teachers I knew in the past, but it isn’t worth talking to them. They’re still furious that Governor Christie won’t pay them $250K per year to work 180 days...
$200 for a disposable face shield when a similar face shield is $12 at the local hardware store.
They’re all ga-ga over O-care since it removes what’s left free market competition and gets 100% participation paying for those $200 pieces of plastic.
If “health care costs are out of control” then why don’t they regulate the industry instead of consumers?
Because Big Med, like Big Pharma is a racket and most politicians are on the take.
He’s a fraud. 5-star ZeroBot.
“If it’s catastrophic insurance then it’s real insurance.

True about what insurance really is, but the thing is, so many people have this entitlement mentality that they should not have to pay anything for doctor visits or medicine. People are going to find out that employer-provided insurance and a strong economy are not such a bad thing. That’s how an economy supports $500 deductibles and 80/20 coverage.
Can you still buy the cheaper plans through ehealthinsurance.com?
BC/BS just had a nice policy for $112. Obama voters are going to be raped as much as anyone now.
“Out-of-pocket cap” is the most money you would ever have to pay in a given year. Once your total medical costs hit that figure, you would not be liable for another penny. So you can rest easy on that point, at least.
Except that sometimes they exclude portions of your expenses from the out-of-pocket, such as having a separate cap for prescriptions, or excluding certain aspects of a bill. I haven’t read all the details of this regarding the ACA (but who has) so maybe they made the cap comprehensive, but I’d bet not. I’d bet that once people actually start using the plans, they’ll find that the cap isn’t as inclusive as it was made out to be.
