Starved and flea-covered German shepherd is rescued after being chained to a tree for FOUR YEARS... as heartless owner gets just a $25 fine

An Ohio pet owner has been arrested and slapped with a $25 fine after police rescued a starving, flea-invested and abused German shepherd that had been chained to a tree for four years. Jeremy Shane Temple was taken into custody last Friday from his Middletown home after officers and Butler County Dog Wardens responded to a report that pets were being mistreated at the residence. Officials discovered a mangy-looking and severely emaciated German shepherd dubbed by his owner Toby tethered to a tree in the backyard with only little food and water.

Heart-rending sight: Toby the German shepherd, later renamed Joseph, was found chained to a tree in his owner's backyard without food or water

When confronted by police about the pet's horrific living conditions, Mr Temple allegedly responded, 'the dog is not a human.' The suspect told investigators that he had the German shepherd for four years and usually kept him outdoors.

Temple attempted to explain away Toby's skeletal appearance by saying that during the summer months, the pooch normally shed a lot of weight. The malnourished pup covered in sores and tick bites was released into the care of the non-profit PAWS Adoption Center, where staffers renamed him Joseph in honor of the biblical character who was left for dead by his brothers, only to became a leader.

Continued... Meg Melampy, a PAWS volunteer, recalled to the local station WCPO that when she gave the pooch a bath, blood from incalculable flea bites freely ran off his body. Clinic manager Mike Gigis described it as the worst case of animal abuse he has ever seen. According to Gigis, Joseph came in weighing only about 60lbs, with his fur falling out from malnourishment and most of his teeth knocked out, the station WKRC reported.

So far, the animal rescue center has spent $1,200 covering the pup's medical costs, which are expected to surpass $2,500.

Temple's neighbors in Middletown said that the pet owner had denied abusing the dog, claiming that Toby-Joseph was suffering from a disease that left him emaciated and infected. Following Temple's arrest, a member of his family even got one of the local residents to write a letter confirming that he had never seen the animal suffering abuse. Beside the $25 fine, Hamilton Journal News reported that Temple also faces charges of cruelty to companion animal, unlicensed dog and improper chaining or tethering. He is due back in court October 14. Joseph is said to be doing better these days and is expected to make a full recovery. The plan is ultimately to put him up for adoption.

$ 25.00 fine for 4 years of abuse...He gets away it. I agree with the rest of the readers... $25 fine, that's all? Tie him To a tree for a few days see how he likes it. And starve him too while you're at it. I'll happily kick his teeth in, free of charge.

I’d like to personally tie this azzhole to a tree with a fire ant hill under it, pour honey on him, and leave him there. Scum.

well, someone must think it is for an abuse of animals case to be covered by the UK Daily Mail. Personally, I think we need to be more aware of jerks like this guy-——before they get to be president.

In July we got a dog that had been taken by the town animal control officer. The owner was arrested for abuse and cruelty. Dodger’s back was bare of fur due to untreated flea infestations and constant scratching. His hind end is very arthritic due to untreated Lyme disease. He is unable to wag his bare tail due to nerve damage.

At first I carried his 78 lbs up and down stairs each day but now, with help, he can make his own way up and down. His fur is growing back a bit and he even plays with our other rescue dog. He’s asleep at my feet right now and snoring contentedly.

I don’t think I’ve wanted to punch a female since I was about 6 years-old but if I ever meet Dodger’s previous owner, I’m going to jail.

From the article: “So far, the animal rescue center has spent $1,200 covering the pup’s medical costs, which are expected to surpass $2,500.

The owner, abuser needs to pay for Joseph’s medical bills and ordered to never own pets.

I place more value on an animal’s life and well being than most of humanity.

This ilk should suffer greatly for what he did.

Six years ago I adopted a female German Shepherd, who had been treated the same way as Joseph. She was chained outside, fed whenever they thought about it, and had heartworms, that almost did her in.
She had a terrible case of separation anxiety, whenever I left the house, and there were times I thought we would never get her through it.
She is now ten years .She is a good and kind dog and I am just glad that our paths crossed when they did.

This dog (who I know) was nearly starved to death in 2010. He made a complete recovery and is living a happy life.

The abuser got away easy. She plead no contest to felony animal cruelty, was reduced to misdemeanor charges, and only paid restitution this year.
