A ship carrying African migrants to Europe caught fire and capsized off the Italian island of Lampedusa on Thursday, killing at least 94 people as it spilled hundreds of passengers into the sea, officials said. Over 150 people were rescued but some 200 others were still unaccounted for.
It was one of the deadliest recent accidents in the notoriously perilous Mediterranean Sea crossing from Africa for migrants seeking a new life in the European Union.
"We need only caskets, certainly not ambulances," Pietro Bartolo, chief of health services on the island, told Radio 24. He gave the death toll of 94 but told Sky TG24 he expected that to rise as search operations continued.
"It's an immense tragedy," said Lampedusa Mayor Giusi Nicolini, adding that the dead included at least one child of about 3 and a pregnant woman.

These dangerous and tragic migrations will continue. After they achieved independence most African countries embraced the tenets of socialism. Miserable poverty and social chaos has been the result. Until productive capitalism is practiced on a widespread basis, the real wealth that makes social justice and decent living possible will not be generated. It is ironic that China and Russia after monumental suffering have come to this conclusion. Unfortunately the West,where these desperate migrants are heading, has forgotten what made it wealth and is itself in material and moral decline.

Seems I read on here about African muslims shipwrecking on the Italian coast and fleeing for the hills where they will, no doubt, start their own muslim communities and expect the Italians to bow to all their demands.

But these were NOT people “seeking a new life in the European Union.” These were islamists who would have sought to install sharia in Italy and throughout Europe, and who’s co-islamists still plan to do just that.
Someone had better get with the program. FAST!
From the writer’s use of the term immigrant it will be naturally assumed that all these people had passports, travel and work visas all in order before they boarded. Babel happened for a reason.

How long is this going to go on and will the boats keep getting bigger and bigger? When will the European “leaders” wake up? When they realize that they are becoming the minority? What is plan B in case multiculturalism isn’t as rosy as the liberals say?
Illegal immigrants. Just like the Mexicans sneaking into the US. Africans have all kind of religion muslims, christians and any kind of tribal religions. If europe want’s it’s culture to survive they’ll have to improve the economy down in africa and/or make the country more unattractive for illegal immigrants to reduce pressure on it’s borders.
At least this is a lesson the US can learn from.
If the mediterainian sea can’t stop illegal immigration a stupid fence, wall or what ever on the mexican border won’t solve illegal immigration either. It’s no matter how tight we’ll secure the borders, as the pressure of immigration rises and people push towards the economical stable countries they will find a way getting into the country. Therefore the US should seriously punish americans hiring illegal immigrants and improve free trade with Mexico to strengthen the mexican economy.
