Reminder: Every Senate Democrat Voted in Favor of Exempting Themselves From Obamacare
Townhall. ^ | Oct 01, 2013 | Daniel Doherty

One of the most profoundly unfair provisions of Obamacare is that members of Congress and their staffers were unilaterally and illegally granted a special exemption from the law they themselves passed. Unlike many Americans, many of whom have been forcibly kicked off their current health care plans, the governing class and their staffers as of now will keep their insurance providers and receive an enormous taxpayer subsidy (depending on which plan they choose) to off-set rising health care costs. Sound fair? I didn’t think so. As it happened, many congressional staffers threatened to resign if they were forced to enroll in the Obamacare exchanges and comply with the mandate -- even though many of them helped draft (and ultimately pass) the legislation.

...

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) said it was “reasonable and sensible” to vote in favor of delaying this provision for one additional year. So how did he and his party end up voting? Well, in the end, along with every other Senate Democrat, he and his colleagues rejected House Republicans’ plan to avert a government shutdown. Splendid.

What does it say about a democratic republic that those who govern 'We the People' feel entitled to receive special privileges and exemptions from laws they themselves pass, while at the same time express no qualms whatsoever about forcing ordinary Americans to comply with them?

Quotation from James Madison, often referred to as "the father" of the U. S. Constitution, in THE FEDERALIST, No. 57, (Excerpt):
"I will add, as a fifth circumstance in the situation of the House of Representatives, restraining them from oppressive measures, that they can make no law which will not have its full operation on themselves and their friends, as well as on the great mass of the society. This has always been deemed one of the strongest bonds by which human policy can connect the rulers and the people together. It creates between them that communion of interests and sympathy of sentiments, of which few governments have furnished examples; but without which every government degenerates into tyranny. If it be asked, what is to restrain the House of Representatives from making legal discriminations in favor of themselves and a particular class of the society? I answer: the genius of the whole system; the nature of just and constitutional laws; and above all, the vigilant and manly spirit which actuates the people of America -- a spirit which nourishes freedom, and in return is nourished by it.

"If this spirit shall ever be so far debased as to tolerate a law not obligatory on the legislature, as well as on the people, the people will be prepared to tolerate any thing but liberty."

They’re just being good Democrats. Their motto: “Do as I say, not as I do.”

All 54 Dems voted to be exempt. How many Republicans voted to be exempt? Is it 25?

Because they wanted the exemption too for themselves and their staffs:

RUSH just got a call about a woman who lost her health care because her hours were cut by her employer. According to her, her car insurance sky rocketed because she had no health care policy.
IF this is not just an odd event, all those young people who choose to just pay a small fine rather than pay a health care welfare fortune are going to be in for an UNpleasant surprise when they go to pay their auto insurance.
Either they come up with a few thousand dollars to pay oboma for health care, or they'll have to come up with a few thousand just to drive their car.

Hows that hope and change thingy workin' out for ya now?.....

Probably because a bunch of Republicans voted to exempt themselves - and their staffs - as well.

Bye-bye argument.

Comments by Rush Limbaugh and Rand Paul:

"I mean, can you imagine a defund Obamacare effort, how much more likelihood it might hold if members of Congress really were upset with how much it was gonna cost 'em? But then Obama came up and took care of that. He's gonna subsidize 75% of their premium, so they now don't care. But if he hadn't subsidized 75% of their premiums for Congress, Senate, and their staffs, then they might not be so eager to have this thing fully funded and implemented. But Obama took care of them. But when he goes out to these low-information audiences and college kids, he doesn't care. He just tells them how wonderful and how great it is, and they'll deal with it later. "

"You really have to wonder, if Obamacare is so great, why did Congress demand to be exempted from it? And they did. I mean, they demanded to be exempted from it like the elites demand to be exempted from everything they subject all the rest of us to. Why are the unions trying to get their own carve-out? Why is everybody trying to make some move to get their own carve-out or waiver from this thing if it is so wonderful? In fact, if it's so wonderful, why does it even need to be sold at all? Why does Obama have to go out there and tout the thing, if it's so wonderful? I mean, it ought to just sell itself, shouldn't it?"

I know right? Is there some shortage of congressional staffers out there? They can’t be replaced? Isn’t that the advice he’d give a business owner affected in the same manner?

Hypocrit.

I’ve seen the media report that 7 million have signed up for insurance. I thought obama said 40 million would get insurance. But I’ve not seen one live person being interviewed that says they signed up and are happy. Of course, I’m sure the media will invent someone before long.

Who could forget? I remember that about 80% of the people didn’t want this and every, I repeat, every democrat in the house, the senate and Obama voted for it. What happened to representing the people? The democrats have not been about that for about 30 years at least. They are about protecting their jobs and propagandizing people before an election with buzz words and sayings like ‘it’s the economy stupid!’ Not real intelligent stuff, but they don’t need it for their voters.

Just wait until the working people find out what is really in this bill and what it will cost them. Things will be different for about 20 years or so. When the democrats start to lose, just watch them scramble and lie.

Exemptions and waivers “granted” by obama are against the law. Of course obama’s IRS won’t enforce it. But maybe the next president will. Unless we get one who says “Let’s move on” and “Islam is a peaceful religion”.

Hmmmm, maybe the GOP should stand up and refuse any subsidy for themselves and staff, and I mean all of them, and let the Dems chew on that. But we all know that wont happen because they really do want it for themselves.
